Suspicious moles check

Hi,

I see so many posts on here from people worried about moles and worst case scenario cases where moles have turned out to be cancer. I am terrible for scaring myself by reading them all so, I thought I would share a positive story!

I've noticed that two of my moles have changed and I have two new marks on my body, one is red and about the size of a pencil rubber and the other one is tanned with frayed edges. I've been anxious and worrying about them for about a month.

I had a day off today and asked for an appt with the specialist skin doctor at the surgery as I thought if it's worst case scenario I'll still feel anxious and nervous but at least I'm doing something about it.

I went to the appt this afternoon and showed him everything I was worried about. He looked at everything in detail with the dermoscope and everything is absolutely fine 👍🏻. I was honestly expecting at the very least a non urgent referral to the dermatologist. He said he could see the two moles had recently 'evolved' but they are completely benign (one is post inflammatory changes) and the new marks are areas of inflammation.

When I looked at my moles to my eye they had the red flag signs for melanoma. I'm so glad I went to get checked, I feel like a weight has been lifted.

Get them checked!

Hi op

i posted about mole check after being very nervous. I went private and the doctor works as a skin cancer specialist and surgeon in the NHS also, he did the same with examining the mole and said that if I had been on the NHS he wouldn’t be referring me as it looked fine. I still opted to have it removed just so I don’t need to worry about it in the future. Glad yours were all good too x

While I appreciate I sound like a complete dick here who is aiming to scare you I promise you I am not. However I would just say that I was referred to the dermatology department saw a specialist and was told it was nothing, actually diagnosed that is was nothing it's on my records however I had worked myself up so was told I could check it again in a few months or have it removed as I was freaking out. I had it removed and it came back malignant melanoma so I would always caution to listen to yourself and if you feel a bit fobbed off push for a biopsy as they don't get it right all the time by looking.

sorry that happened to you. I did have mine removed and sent off to be checked but I am lucky I was able to pay for it. The surgeon told me less and less moles are being removed on the NHs now

It was a really awful shock as I never tanned or burned it was an incredibly rare kind which is usually found in older ethnic minorities which i am neither. I think in some ways I got lucky as they did it there and then which has not been my experience since. I am quite wary now unfortunately of taking experts advice though.

You poor thing! That's awful. I will still be keeping a close eye on my skin but I should have included that I had a baby last year which can also cause moles to evolve. Mine have only changed very slightly but I am really vigilant so I noticed. I really wish I wasn't so fixated on this.

Identical to me, I had a new growth and was told probably nothing and wasn't referred but it still bothered me as I had all the hallmarks of something dodge so I paid to get it removed and biopsied to be on the safe side.

Luckily it was nothing but I've had peace of mind. I don't do well with watch and wait!
