Blood shown on urine dip test

Hello,
I'm being treated for a uti (no symptoms) because blood has shown up on a dip test. I've always had a trace but the GP said there's more than a trace this time, ++ i think she said.
I have health anxiety so trying to be resilient and not worry but thought I'd ask if anyone else has had this. I'm 48 and about 8 years into perimenopause.

It's very common. I was referred for a cystoscopy (a quick, painless procedure) and the consultant said he wasn't expecting to find anything and he didn't.

I have unexplained BIU, had all the tests and camera into bladder, there was nothing there (they let me see). Try not to worry.

Hey op, if you do a quick search I guarantee there is a thread about this nearly every week....it's that common!

I have this all the time and it's normal for me. I've had all the gold standard tests to rule out bladder cancer etc.

I even paid to see a urologist who laughed me out of his office basically saying ...do you know how many women your age I see with this. Don't get me wrong he was very nice and referred me for all the tests but I haven't worried since.

I take hrt cream for my fanjo which protects my bladder and I take a cranberry tablet as a preventative for uti's and that's sorted my symptoms out. The minuscule blood is just one of those things.

I agree with @Tanfastic it's so common and in my 30+ years as a GP I referred loads of people with this and never found anything wrong. Have even had it myself!! Cancers in the renal tract usually present with visible blood.

Thanks all,
Can you recommend a cranberry tablet please?

I take the Holland and Barrett ones, one a day.

Update,
Another urine test has shown ++blood but clear for everything else now. She's sending me for an ultrasound for my kidney, whats the likelihood of this being cancer? I'm terrified. Kepe reading it has to be visible blood but the doctor didn't seem to think that.

Very unlikely. Try not to worry.

When it comes to bladder cancer, less than 5% of referrals for invisible blood in urine turn out to be cancer. And it's nearly always in older men. Very rare in women.

Not sure about kidney cancer but, as with my cystoscopy, the doctor doing the renal scan assured me she wasn't expecting to find anything sinister.

It's natural to be worried, OP, but the stats are weighted heavily in your favour.
