And they have arisen out of the blue.

Not related to pg/birth

What do I do? Anything? Nothing?

Whatever you do, don't get constipated. Drink load of fluids and eat plenty of fresh fruit/veg (but not too much, you don't want to end up with the squirts either).

Have only ever had this once or twice during pg, so I've never used any of the over the counter arse creams, but I presume they can bring relief.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

lots of water, make sure you're hydrated so you don't get constipated. do they hurt alot? or bleed? if so, then i'd go see a doctor, but sometimes they flare up and then go away again... my lovely piles are sometimes linked with my periods, don't know why, and also when i don't eat well, so i try and eat lots of fruit and veg and they tend to be kept at bay.
when i had really awful piles after pregnancy, i spent many hours with an icepack and a teatowel up my backend to relieve the pain.

Buy Anusol...I got them really bad after dd2 and bought this. They cleared up after about 3 days. You have my sypmathies....they are agony!

moodlesoup · 11/04/2008 21:33

oh, forgot to mention anusol the cream - didn't do much for me.

i was also given a pessary by my lovely doctor, which is the last thing you want to do, push a horse tablet up your bum when its half hanging out, so i don't recommend any pessaries of any kind!

feel better.

Take prune juice, or eat prunes - some people can't stand the taste though. Sprinkle your cereal with linseeds and eat pine nuts. All of which will keep you regular. Don;t take laxatives unless you are really bad - and if so, take something like senna which stimulates your muscle more naturally - most other laxatives make your bowels lazy in the long run. But fybogel is ok as it is extra fibre - so doing what comes natrually. and drink LOADS and loads. At the very least 2litres a day (not including coffee/tea).

And wear cotton underwear so they can breathe adn don't get more inflamed. Some people say put vaseline on your finger and push them back in, if it is really sore to sit down on them.

But you shoudl probaly check it out with the doctor if not pregnancy related - as that is my only experience of actual piles - although the advice above about keeping regular is not just pregnancy related.

INeedTheAmateurArseDr · 11/04/2008 21:40

OK.

I did have tehm postnatally - that was years ago. They were worse than this and IIRC they cleared up on there own over about 10days or so. I assume these will?

I think they have recurred as I was a bit overagressive wiping yesterday.

Have been bleeding & itching a bit today, hence investigating just now to find a little pile.

I find anusol sorts them in a couple of days. Don't get chemists own brand stuff - utterly useless.

Have you had a long journey/sat down for longer than you usually would? I used to get them whenever I went to my ex-ILs, the 4hr car journey was not good for my bottom! Thank goodness my new fella is local!

FourPlusOne · 11/04/2008 21:46

Only ever have had this in a pregnancy realted way, and then if I have had a couple of days of not eating so well. I make sure that I have a v fibrous cereal in the morning and some fruit and orange juice, then lots of water. That tends to keep things ok even if I have a couple of unhealthy things throught the day - though I do just try and eat lots of veg etc. Usually works for me.

Someone on mn mentioned sudocrem once I think. Not tried it myself but I suppose it saves the slight embarassment of buying Anusol or similar. I had to go and buy this once a couple of weeks after DC1 was born. Went to the chemist myself as I would never could have asked DH to buy such a thing for me!!

emma1977 · 11/04/2008 21:47

Keep anusol in the fridge- it helps with any throbbing or itching.

Now for the TMI bit.......If the piles are a bit prominent- push them back up after you have pooed. If it is too painful, wrap an ice cube in a piece of tissue and clench it near your anus until it melts. This will ease any pain and shrink the pile a bit and so make it easier to 'reposition'.

FourPlusOne · 11/04/2008 21:47

I mean lots of water through the day - not straight after the breakfast!

uptomyeyes · 11/04/2008 21:53

mypandasgotcrabs - rofl at getting piles when you went to see your ex-MIL

OP - I've had them a couple of times, tis a family trait on my fathers side. Both Anusol and germaloids do bring some relief along with all the good advice about drinking water etc already given.

MIL-induced piles....hilarious.
