Hi.
looking for some advice as I’m waiting for another transvaginal US. Really anxious as had smear 2015 then didn’t for years till April this year (was clear of cells and HPV) but leading to the appointment have lower back and still do. NHS waiting list 12 months as scan 14 weeks ago showed slightly thickened endemetrium but I was due on a period. Said also on report area of myometrium was slightly hetrogenous. Didn’t say anything else except no definite uterine fibroids or polyps noted. Said no cysts in ovaries except a collapsing one (corpus leatum) which is apparently normal and normal size uterus.

I have hideous lower back ache which is worse when I pee. Aching loads and peeing makes it worse. Feels like my bladder fills quickly too and anxious as hell and pee. But even after a poo it leaves a sensation in bladder / back.

I was spotting 5 days before my period for probs around 12 months but not every month. I’m 45, still have reg periods and cycle is 21/24 days apart. Been that for a while.
Spotting comes and goes quickly. Like a bit that doesn’t require sanitary wear.

feel so anxious :( got to have polyp removed and nhs have literally left me for months. I have now enquired about going private and it’s expensive as may need hysteroscopy. I’m also terrified of needing that! Hence the scan soon to check if other polyps in uterus and if so, will need that scope.

so scared - all the time.

advice welcome guys.

thanks

I had a polyp found at a smear, and it was removed some months later as an outpatient. More recently I had investigates after a 43 day bleed - they found a small fibroid but no further polyps and endometrium normal, so concluded it's just perimenopause.

I wouldn't have known about the polyp were it not for the smear. It's removal was uncomfortable because someone has to rummage around inside you, but it was only uncomfortable rather than psinful, and I've had more painful periods.

Is your GP or gynae aware you have ongoing lower back pain and issues with urination and after pooing? As I read your post, that's been more of an issue since your referral, so they won't be aware. I think you should let your GP know.

Hi. I had lower back pain when I had the smear and scan yeah but it gets back on and off. It never truly goes unless I’m lay down in bed relaxing.

im on a period now, which is making my back ache more tbh.

glad you’re ok now

have you had kids?

How old are you? I’m 45 - wondering if polyps are linked to peri meno

I had several polyps removed when I was 62. One had been seen years before, during a smear. A retired nurse pal later advised that it should be removed.

When I finally got examined, there were some in the vagina, one on the cervix and a couple in the uterus. In the end, they gave me a GA, removed the polyps and did a D&C. Everything was fine.

My polyp was removed when I was 49/50. (The actual removal was about 2 weeks after my birthday but had been postponed twice because of covid.)

Honestly don't be scared. The NHS totally fucked me up. Why they cannot sack people who are simply shit at their job like a normal business I have no idea. I was constantly bleeding for the best part of a year. Had every NHS test under the sun. They told me I had nothing wrong with me. Told me my periods would be 'heavier' for 3 months after a camera. I was haemorrhaging every time I had sex. After 6 months (and newly armed with private cover) I went back to the GP who made out it was MY fault for being discharged whilst still having symptoms. Picked a private gynaecologist at random and went private. She did her own investigation expecting to see nothing and found a golf ball polyp. I had no pain, nothing. She whipped it out and I was cured within 24 hours. No pain. You'll be fine, they're harmless, but if your GP has misdiagnosed then drag them over coals.

HolyJackaMoly · 15/07/2024 01:54

I meant to say highly unlikely to be cancerous so keep calm but just be vigilant

HolyJackaMoly · 15/07/2024 01:57

I also meant to say I was haemorrhaging because the fuckwits in the NHS that put a camera up me (and said nothing was wrong) managed to scrape the polyp on the way out but yeah durr nothing to see, totally healthy right? 🙄

missiz · 15/07/2024 23:23

That’s horrible. Did you originally go cause of bleeding?

Nurse found a large polyp on my cervix during a routine smear at the start of the year. Up to then I had no symptoms, but as the weeks passed I developed lower back ache and a weird ‘heavy’ sensation , especially after going to the loo. I began to get really concerned about it; the NHS wait was upwards of 9 months in my area so I eventually paid to go privately (£380).

It was removed really easily. In fact, it was gone before I knew it (there was genuinely no pain, not even a tug!) and (touch wood) the pain has gone.
