Dreaded haemorrhoids

I had a baby in May, my first and very likely only, I’m 41. I developed piles during my pregnancy, they were not good but Scheriproct seemed to shrink them a bit and they got somewhat smaller/better. When the baby was out (c section) they had disappeared by the next day and I was briefly over the moon. They came back the same week following constipation from the anaesthetic and they haven’t gone since.

More scheriproct has since been prescribed, ointment and suppositories this time, but nothing much has changed. They’re still there, I’m still miserable and want them to bugger off. I feel so incredibly unattractive.

In your experience, is there any chance they’ll go on their own? I’m doing pelvic floor exercises most days, when I remember, I need to get back to general exercise and lose a stone, I’m hoping more activity and less weight will help, but I’m not getting my hopes up. Has anyone tried any interventions like banding with success?

I feel your pain! I had them after having twins and they eventually went away with meds but will come back if I have constipation. I make sure I eat a high fibre diet now! All Bran cereal is a life saver!

@blackandgold88 thanks for replying, can I ask what meds it was? I’m disappointed that the steroids seem to be doing very little, feel like there’s nowhere left to turn.

I’ll up my fibre, I always forget that might help because I don’t feel constipated as such.

I can’t remember sorry the doctor prescribed them. I was in agony and couldn’t sit down on any hard surfaces 🫣 the dietician told me skin on pears are an excellent source of fibre as well. Keep pestering the doctor if that type of meds isn’t working x

I was in the most terrible state with them ( prolapsed, unable to sit etc) a couple of months ago and it lasted a month. I am meant to be being contacted regarding surgery but have heard nothing. However mine have largely subsided through the following. I take dulco-ease tablets three times a day which is a stool softener, and lactulose ( another stool softener) once a day sometimes twice. Lots of fruit, apples and pears and for a month after was eating prunes daily. trying to avoid anything which bungs me up like white bread. If you are breastfeeding please check these medications are safe to use, they can both be bought over the counter.

Stool softener until you are no longer “symptomatic” e.g. movicol or laxido and literally no straining. I really feel your pain, suffered terribly after my first baby and doing all I can now pregnant to not go through the same this time! Lesson learnt!
