I know they are all ‘normal’ but some are low end of the normal range and I feel, as ever, dreadful. MCH for example is the lower end of normal and has been for years, is there a way to improve this? Also lower end of normal for MCV, so smaller red blood cells too.
my ALT is also slightly raised, the lab reference range says it should be <33 and mine is 35, so not hugely raised, but I know low MCH & raised ALT can be linked with anaemia. I have managed to get my ferritin up to 53 by taking 2 lots of iron for the last 6 months (range is 15-300) but is my body able to use all that? Is it worth paying privately (though I can ill afford it) for a TIBC blood test? I constantly get Beaus lines on my nails, I have B12 injections every 3 months.

I’m aware I’m grasping at straws, I’m just desperate. I don’t have a social life, I’m permanently knackered and just never see any improvement.

I am lower end BMI and I don’t drink so why is my ALT raised?

TIA.

You're not anaemic. Whatever you are feeling wont get better with treatment for anaemia, as you are not anaemic. I expect a repeat ALT in a few months will be normal. Sorry you are feeling rough but more random blood tests won't help you

I would be looking for other things as to why you are feeling so bad, my ferritin was 2 and my HB 90 before they gave me an iron transfusion and I didn't feel any better after it. What have the doctors said? Are you taking a b6 vitamin?

I’m just desperately looking for answers. I’ve struggled to get off the sofa for most of the last 8 years and I have no life.
This is the highest my ferritin has been for around 15 years thanks to a hysterectomy and endless iron tablets. I take B12, thyroxine, liothyronine, Desunin 800, ferrous fumerate, iron bisglycinate & have hydroxocobalamin injections.

It is much more important to listen to the patient's description of his/her symptoms than to use the full blood count to rule out iron deficiency. If symptoms are in accordance with iron deficiency, the patient should be considered iron deficient at least up to a serum ferritin concentration of 100 μg/L, or even much higher, if the patient has an inflammatory condition, kidney disease or fatty liver

Iron deficiency without anemia – a clinical challenge

One should always consider iron deficiency (without anemia) as the cause of persisting, unexplained unspecific, often severe, symptoms, regardless of the primary underlying disease. The symptoms of iron deficiency may arise from the metabolic systems ....
