Gift to thank chemo nurses

Icanneverthinkofausername · 05/07/2024 21:18

I'm finally coming to the end of chemo and want to get the team who've been looking after me a little thank you gift. But bit stuck on what to get?
There's 6 different nurses, the blood test nurse, 3 receptionists that I interact with weekly, so while gift cards for Costa would be lovely I can't afford to even put £5 on card for each of them.
Any suggestions around the £20 mark? As while they're worth their weight in gold I'm on sick pay. I'll be writing them A very heartfelt card to go with

I made my nurses a little basket with a variety of hand creams, perfume samples, soaps and hand gel.

Got a lovely thank you card back.

Some tea, coffee and biscuits would be appreciated I'm sure.
Some nhs employers don't allow staff to accept vouchers as gifts (considered a proxy for cash).

This!

Nice pump bottle hand cream they can all use? Can you do individual cards as they can use the comments for professional devt/ appraisals type things.
Also an email to the trust chief exec naming the staff will be appreciated.

This!

I'm not sure about tea coffee and biscuits. When I had chemo, there were endless supplies of these on tap. I bought hand made chocolates for mine. Everyone loves chocolate.

They are lucky! We pay for tea/coffee.
But we adore patients bringing treats and cards! Cards mean a lot.

Twix42 · 05/07/2024 21:52

100% definitely write them individual wee cards that they can use for their NMC revalidation!

They will be so grateful for absolutely anything, but I keep all the personal wee cards I get from all my patients.

ButIsItArt · 05/07/2024 21:58

Also see if the trust has a wall of thanks or an all stars type webpage where you can submit praise/compliments

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 21:59

Posh hand creams?

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 05/07/2024 22:08

My mum took a tin of Quality Street in for the staff room and on her check up, the doctor made a point of thanking her

Boredmum24 · 05/07/2024 22:19

Absolutely individual notes that they can use for revalidation would be really appreciated

Toddlerteaplease · 05/07/2024 22:46

A card with a message in it. Mentioning names, is far more appreciated than gifts. We can use them for our revalidation.

I made a huge tub of shortbread. I cut them up into fingers as it was cooling. They absolutely loved it and managed to finish the tub off in a day!
This shouldn’t cost you more than a tenner.

This everytime https://www.boots.com/nursem-caring-hand-cream-300ml-10262712

we love receiving and I like to give it when I’ve got spare cash and I know they really like it. I wouldn’t do drinks as we get them free during treatment they have cupboards full.

sweets I wouldn’t do either because everyone of them watches what they eat and I’ve noticed the weight loss amongst them 😀 I work in paeds and none of us can say no and we get sweets and chocolate every single day it’s too much. Fruit is a novelty can you make a basket up?

yea to the cards. Only this week I re validated and my CNS got intouch with me asking to write some feed back for her and it was a pleasure to do. Now I’m wondering if I could do that for my nurses but over an email I don’t like wasting paper and I hate to mention people individually as someone always gets missed.

Yeah, there's a tea/coffee biscuit stand set up in the waiting room and they definitely help themselves to then when they bring them round for me so not sure how much of a treat this would be.

Okay so definitely individual cards to thank them all.
Luckily there's a photo wall so I will double check I remember them all and get the names spelt correctly.

Fruit basket. Would be mega appreciated & if you can get to a market cheap too

OMGitsnotgood · 06/07/2024 06:54

A fruit basket is what my nurse friend suggested when I asked her for suggestions. She said biscuits and chocolates are too tempting and most of them are 'either watching their weight or should be' - her words not mine.

That said I've noted the nursem hand cream mentioned up thread for the next time I need ideas. Probably won't go far on a big ward but good for a smaller staff.

EachandEveryone · 06/07/2024 07:58

It lasts for ages! Dont forget it has to be on the desk not in each room
