Dd1 is very tall for her age, she wears 8-9 year clothes, has size 13 feet and is the tallest in her year so i dont know if it's just because she is bigger all over. She definately looks like she is getting boobs even my very unobservant sister noticed, she is not a fat child but is not skinny iykwim. Does anyone have any advice?

There is a condition called precocious puberty see here

Maybe you could read up on it and make an appointment with your GP if you are worried?

Could it just be a layer of puppy fat? Maybe she is getting ready for yet another growth spurt?

Definitely go to GP if worried though. I am concerned about this happening to my DD, she is only just 3 but very tall and often mistaken for school-age - she hasn't even started pre-school yet!

I think i will take her to the doctors, i just didnt want her to get embarrassed and self conscious about it iykwim.

maybe go to the doctors on your own first to chat about it? rather than discussing it in front of her? obviously you don't want to make a big issue of it and risk her becoming self-conscious about it.

Yes but if she goes to doc without dd, how will he/she be able to examine her? Isn't the point of going for the doc to say if it might be precocious puberty or not?

are they sore? if so she could be getting them, otherwise it could be fat?

MissKubelik · 11/04/2008 20:27

I think what I would do is go see doc for a preliminary chat, or phone if possible - then if doc feels it is appropriate, make an appointment for DD to be examined. Then the doc can just say yes or no, make a referral, or whatever - without having to have a detailed discussion in front of the child. You can just tell your DD it is a general health check-up. Just my opinion of course - never had to deal with anything like this personally!

My dd who is only just 6 has defined 'boobs' but she has had them a long time with no other effects, sometimes more noticable than others - I think its more before a growth spurt. She's not skinny nor fat - but she's tall for her age (125cm ish) and too has big feet - size 1.5 !!
I'm keeping an eye out for signs of precocious puberty but not noticed anything else.
