Scared about MMR

I've never posted before but my ds is due for his MMR soon and I'm scared to death about giving to to him. Can anyone reassure me? I'm not anti-vaccination but I've been doing some reading about MMR reactions and bad reactions can and do happen - these parents can't all be hysterical/wrong as the medical establishment seem to want us to believe. My ds had a bad reaction to previous injections and I'm really beginning to panic. What is a normal reaction to MMR? Thanks for any help.

I can only tell you my experience, but do understand - I was nervous both times, but especially with dd1.

She had a mild fever, and a few spots, a few days later (about 10 days?? can't really remember, but nurse will tell you what to expect). And was grumpy a few days after that, too - though no proof it was mmr related.

dd2 had no reaction at all, but then again she never did to any of her jabs - whereas dd1 had fever after all of them.

What bad reaction did your ds have to his other jabs, jojo?

And welcome, btw

Hi jojomo

Will be watching with interest as just 2 months to go before dd is due.

jojomo · 10/04/2008 12:26

Hi, thanks for the replies. He's not due for it for another six weeks or so (I'm panicking well in advance!) but will keep you posted pinkjenny. After each of the first round of jabs, he was fine for a few hours but then went terribly listless and began this terrible crying. It was very high-pitched and he was clearly very distressed. He wouldn't let me go and almost cried himself sick. It was awful. He is usually a very bouncy, happy little thing and so it was totally out of character.

You could get singles, I was very happy with the ones I got for my DS.

jojomo · 10/04/2008 12:27

Sorry, meant to say it lasted for a few hours each time. I ended up staying up all night to keep an eye on him. But he was ok in the end every time.

You sound like me jojomo - worrying weeks in advance of the event!

DD was fine after all her jabs, maybe a little quieter than normal. Look forward to hearing how it goes.
