Prostate help - bleeding

Morning
I am really concerned about my DH but the drs don't seem to be.
He has blood from his bum and they say it's because his prostate is enlarged but surely this is not normal?
He's had a lot of past gastro issues including a hiatus hernia which caused a lot of sickness so they said the bleeding could be from his stomach lining!
He's literally having to put tissue there cause it's a constant trickle.
He's utterly miserable and in considerate discomfort around his whole abdomen/ pelvic area.
The prostate has been enlarged for about 3 months but the bleeding maybe the last 3/4 weeks.
AIBU to be very worried?
Anyone have any advise or experience with this? I am struggling to be honest as he is ill a lot and its exhausting

Just bumping so someone with some knowledge hopefully sees it.
How many times has he discussed the rectal bleeding with different Drs? Is it worth you accompanying him to an appointment? Is he under urology for his prostate or GP just monitoring?
Has he had a fit test or any blood tests? Suffering with constipation or piles? I’m sure it must be worrying but maybe, as the Drs say, it isn’t anything concerning. I would want it looked into a bit more before being reassured though.

Ask for a second opinion? Ask to be referred to urologist? Any rectal bleeding needs investigation and follow up. Has he piles? Complain bout weakness and tiredness. If very worried go to A and E, at least the urology team will be contacted..

Dh 63 just had similar. He had tests , he has piles and diverticulitis, but prostrate ok.

The prostate gland is not part of the digestive system, so I don't see it as being the cause of rectal bleeding, unless there is a fistula. BPH is very common in elderly men, perhaps DH should be seeing a urologist for his enlarged prostate.

He should be seeing an specialist for rectal bleeding, probably a gastroenterologist. However, it is entirely possible the problem is 'just' hemorrhoids. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/326040

Please note I am not a medical person, just an elderly man with BPH and rectal problems.

Bleeding hemorrhoids: Causes, symptoms, treatment, and prevention

Hemorrhoids can bleed when straining to pass stool. Home and over-the-counter remedies can usually treat them, but sometimes a person may need to see a doctor.

Has he had his PSA level checked? If not I'd been pushing for this pronto. Hope he is OK and you are too xx

Yes he has that that's all fine and apparently has been referred to urology so will have to chase that

My husband is currently undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.

One of the symptoms that he was asked about was whether he had blood in his urine or semen, was never asked about blood from his bum.

I agree with previous posters, please get a 2nd opinion as this is always something that needs to be investigated, especially as you have described it as constant....

Please try not to worry.

Please get him to see another dr, it could be his bowels that are the issue? It's definitely not normal!

justasking111 · 01/07/2024 17:46

Has he had a blood test for cancer markers?

It won't be his prostate, that blood would be in urine.
