Can orgasms cause brain aneurysm?

TheCandidSnake · 30/06/2024 22:13

I was just casually scrolling tik Tok and saw a video about a woman who had a ruptured brain aneurysm after sex. I have health anxiety anyway and it is quite severe which I have been in treatment for many years for. Now I've seen this I've told my DH to stay the hell away from me. I'm horrified and even starting to panic that any other strenuous exercise could cause this. I want to wrap myself up in cotton wool!! Please can someone make me think logically about this. I'm aware how silly it sounds!

Mind blowing sex is not literal

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 30/06/2024 22:23

Stop mindlessly scrolling TikTok and try to find something more productive to do with your time? 🤷‍♀️

Some people have had a ruptured brain aneurysm going to the toilet! These things are so so rare that you can't let it get in the way of your day to day life. Take some deep breaths when you think about it and distract yourself if you can, don't let it get between you and your loved ones x

Countrygirlxo · 30/06/2024 22:33

Maybe banging your head hard enough on the headboard could be a possible cause but from an orgasm.. no 😂

Anonym00se · 30/06/2024 22:34

If you’ve got an aneurysm anything can set it off. You can’t avoid everything. And chances of you having an aneurysm are tiny.

My dad died of a ruptured aneurysm. He was old, grossly overweight and was a chain smoker. If you’re young and otherwise healthy you’re at no greater risk than anyone else. Your DH is as likely to burst an aneurysm having sex as you are!

Health anxiety is the pits, but you can get over it. Just keep doing all the things you’ve covered in your treatment. I had it for years. Eventually I thought “Every night I go to sleep scared that I won’t wake up, but every day I do still wake up”. I learned to ignore every minor bodily sensation that I became convinced was cancer/DVT/heart attack/AIDS, and I’m still here decades later. And remember to breathe (slowly)!

Technically you could... but it's so rare!! Why waste your life worrying about that?
My dad died of a brain aneurysm last year. No warning signs whatsoever. He was only 63. Seemed in great health. And he wasn't doing anything strenuous when it happened. He was just sat watching TV.. he died instantly. Didn't even move.
I'm not trying to scare you but the thing is there's nothing you can do to 100% protect yourself. Obviously it's a good idea to live as healthy a life as possible.. keep active, eat well.. but at the end of the day if its your time it's your time.
Absolutely pointless doing things like avoiding orgasms because there's a very very small possibility it might kill you..
You need to make peace with the fact you'll die somehow someday you can't hide from that by stopping living your life.
Flip side.. orgasms can actually help protect you from some issues! They lower stress levels etc..

TheCandidSnake · 30/06/2024 23:08

I know it sounded absolutely insane but I can't help it andy brain just automatically starts to panic. Now laid in bed thinking I'm gonna get it at any moment. I realize how rare it is but I'm not exactly healthy or fit and well which is further digging the fear into me. I've spent many a year not doing things and avoiding things because of my anxiety and now I'm scared to move!
To the person that said find something else to do other than mindlessly scrolling, I'm a mum to a child with additional needs and it's HARD, if I want to use my down time when he is in bed mindlessly scrolling tik Tok then I will do so without fear of your judgement thanks.

I also have health anxiety and the ironic thing is the unnecessary stress we put our bodies under by worrying about stuff that's all in our heads is ultimately the worst thing we can do. Stress is the worst thing for the body and it manifests in so many different ways. I'm sure I imagine the pains that convince me to think it's something bad because when I have something else to worry about, that pain disappears.

Mags1001 · 30/06/2024 23:36

I've known a few people who has anurisms going to the toilet, and no, you won't know anything about it.

never have i ever heard of one after sex,
2 thrusts n a wetpatch... is that it??
Mindblowing sex? I'm missing something

Circumferences · 30/06/2024 23:37

If anything, having a healthy sex life and lots of orgasms is proven to extend your life.
It improves your metabolism, your immune system, and your mental health...

Chewyspree · 30/06/2024 23:38

So you have health anxiety to the point where you are now unhealthy because you daren’t move.

And you’re doom scolding on tik tok (which is the cesspit of humanity), claiming it is down time (seems like it is really relaxing you) and you have not one word of sympathy to extend to the women on here whose fathers actually died from aneurisms.

you say you’re in treatment. Tell your therapist and if they don’t tell you to delete trash off your phone, get a new therapist.

Bluemincat · 30/06/2024 23:39

Absolutely. I've had so many stress-related illnesses now due to the stress caused by health anxiety! It's such a vicious circle.

At the moment what I'm finding most helpful is when I'm worrying that I've got or am going to get an illness, I keep reminding myself that I DO have an illness - health anxiety - and that illness causes me to think that I am ill/going to get ill/going to die. So every time I start worrying about an illness I just say "oh that's the health anxiety talking again and trying to convince me of something that isn't true. What I need to concentrate on is the illness that I do have - which is health anxiety - and do whatever helps me deal with that" eg going for a walk/playing music/calling a friend etc.

Essentially, concentrate on the illness you do have not all the millions of illnesses that you don't!

Wolfiefan · 30/06/2024 23:40

But scrolling Tik Tok clearly isn’t a good use of your time if it makes you panic like this. The treatment you’ve had isn’t working. Go back to your GP.

DeedlessIndeed · 30/06/2024 23:40

@TheCandidSnake , kindly, I think PP was saying that it's not in your best interest to doom scroll, given your health anxiety.

Of course it is your prerogative if you want to spend your evenings doing that, but social media use is pretty well documented to negatively impact mental health.

Why don't you try to cut back a small amount of time each day, and do one thing that can help your health. The Dr Moseley "Just One Thing" podcasts are pretty good at giving you ideas for one small thing to try to improve your health. It might make you feel better to take some control over your wellbeing.

sevsal · 30/06/2024 23:43

It didn't cause the aneurysm, just the rupture, which anything slightly strenuous can do if you have an aneurysm.
