Saltire, Popsycal, anyone else out there???

Do you suffer from either of these, I have had such severe headaches for about 2 month now, enough to wake me most nights which resulting in me not sleeping much I get to sleep alright, but the headaches wake be by 3 and dont really sleep after that.

I am here.

I get headaches but not as severe as this sounds. It sounds awful, shoshe. Are they migraine type headachess?

kittywise · 10/04/2008 08:22

Hello, I don't suffer from the headaches, but i do ave TMJ disorder since having had a wisdom extraction 4 years ago. Mine manifests itself but the usual popping of the joint and then I have episodes of trigeminal neuralgia, predominately chronic toothache in a crowned (dead) tooth.

It can get so bad that I am physically sick.

What works for me is having the BOWEN technique. It has worked as a therapy where all other traditional/conventional treatments and drugs have failed. It's worth a try?

shoshe · 10/04/2008 08:57

Yep, if I move my head, I feel dizzy feeling sort of thing, they havnt made me sick, but feel like I'm taking solpdol, like its going out of fashion.

Have a appointment with my Dr tonight, but dont suppose she will be able to do anything.

This flare seems to be going on forever this time, usually its a bout 6 weeks sort of thing, but this one started about Christmas time, alot of pain and very little sleep, then the headaches started, which I am wondering if its because of lack of sleep, but the less I sleep the worse the headaches, so its a vicous circle.

Why I asked about TMJ is that one of my Mums (I am a CM) is a dentist and has said she thinks I have this as well, and looking on the FM, site it does say up to 75% of FM suffers have it.

I was wondering if it caused headaches Kittywise?

shoshe, tmj cause all sorts of refered pain problems. Do you have reason to think that your jaw has been traumatised in some way?

Please try and find a Bowen practitioner, they will be able to help you.

shoshe · 10/04/2008 12:04

Kitty had my jaw broken by Ex about 25 years ao, and then had probs with wisdom teeth and had to have them all out. The FM caused me to grind my teeth so badly I have had 18 out in one go,about 4 years ago, so that could be the reason, but it is something that goes with FM, from what I have read.

Have a look at this and see what you think.

Ok got to see Dr (who is brill by the way, was in with her 45 mins!!! and she went through everything)

I cant have any different or more meds, but she thought it would be worth me taking the Etodolac 600mg (long acting painkiller) at night instead of the morning, reasoning, that it should control the headaches as well as the normal pain, letting me sleep better, which in turn would help me deal with the pain during the day.

I still have the codeine and Hydroxychloroquine for the lupus, so those with Ibrufen should help me through the day pain, but she feels that with more sleep, this will get better.

So today went without the main painkiller this morning (ouch) and used just the others, managed but bloody painful, and have just taken the Etodolac,

Other thing was she has scheduled me some more acupuncture at the physio's, this time in my neck to try to help the headaches.

So hopefully will be getting better.

Hi shoshe - have been away for a week so just seen this.
I get bad headaches, but I don't think it's what you have. Mine g down one side of my face, over behind my ear and sort of into my neck, then over my eye. Having a few eye/head problems just now, am off to start a thread about it

LilRedWG · 14/04/2008 08:27

Hi Shoshe. I have TMJ dysfunction and it was first diagnosed when I was a teenager, because I was getting lots of headaches, due to the limited range of my jaw and subsequent clenching.

I had an arthroscopy about 13 years ago but it did bugger all. I still get headaches now and take Syndol (over the counter) for them as they have a muscle relaxant in.

Last week I had the worst headache I've ever had, but I don't know if it was related to TMJ or not. I couldn't get out of bed and MIL had to look after DD for me (the first time I've been that ill since she was born).

Try osteopathy!!! Most headaches, migranes are muscular-skeletal - all those drugs sound scary! I've had migraine-like headaches for years, do NOT want to live on painkillers. My aunt just got compacted constipation through continual Anadin Plus use. So I see an osteopath about once every six weeks and it keeps it at bay. And many other things too. He says he works a lot with people with TMJ dysfunction and they also get great relief from it.
