I rejoined the gym after Christmas and everything going fine generally..but I would really like to improve my upper arms and I want to know if anyone has managed to tackle upper arm bagginess and win

I am doing some weights, but are they actually going to work and how long will it take?

I used a flexi-bar to ease a frozen shoulder and it had an effect on my upper arms. It probably would have had more of an effect if I'd been a bit more diligent about using it.

That sounds intersting Bran..

There's lots of blurb on that site but it doesn;t really show how it works....what do you do with it?

I caught an odd bacterial disease a few years ago and lost 2 stone - that got rid of any bingo wings and everything else that wobbled - losing weight is probably the only thing ?

If I could bottle the bacterial thing I had I would be a millionaire many times over - get bacterial thing, put up with not toooooo bad symptoms until you have had enough / lost enough weight, then take antibiotics and be rid !

Friday, unfortunately I have lost weight, and the rest of me is just right, but I can;t shift the baggy arms.

It's part ofmy body type I'm afraid, slim hips & legs and tendency to put on weight on my top half.

Oh Bran, sorry, I see there is loads more info on the website that I didn;t notice

I don't wiggle it as much as that link FK, perhaps the amplitude gets larger as you get stronger but I was never in any danger of knocking myself out. It's actually quite easy to wobble once you get used to it (after about 3 goes). It's not making it wobble that makes your muscles work, it's trying to hold your body steady while it wobbles. It was really good for my back too after I hurt it carrying ds.

I really must get back to it - in fact I might have a quick wobble while I'm watching Grand Designs.

frayedknot i have banished my flappers with a lot of backstroke and the occasional press up.

bran do you think that wobblybar would be of use to a person with very bad arthritis in neck, or just add to their pain?

Prufrock · 09/04/2008 21:22

I love my flexi bar - I train twice a week with a personal trainer and in the 6 weeks after we started flexi bar I lost 3 inches on my waist. Not sure it would be great for toning bingo wongs though.

You need to be exercising your triceps not biceps for bingo wings. So tricep dips, pullbacks, skullcrushers etc are the way to go

flowerybeanbag · 09/04/2008 21:23

My upper arm exercise is as follows -

Stand arm's length away from a wall, feet together. Put hands flat on wall so you are leaning into it a bit. Do very slow press-ups against the wall, slooowly in, hold for a sec, then sloooowly push out again.

bran · 09/04/2008 22:32

fishie I'm not sure whether it would be good or bad for arthritis. It seems to work well for all sorts of muscular things but arthritis is skeletal. You would probably need to get a medical opinion on that.

Do bodypump - it works amazingly quickly. I haven't been able to go for weeks and my arms are becoming squishy again.
