I’m feel like I’m ill every other month and it’s driving me mad

So far this year I’ve had

  1. a chest infection requiring steroids and penicillin in addition to my regular inhalers for asthma. 1 week off work
  2. Covid, followed by three weeks of extreme fatigue. 2 weeks off work
  3. food poisoning/ noro. 2 days off.
  4. migraines, 4. 4 days off work
I’m at a loss. This is in just 6 months. Usually it’s this but over a year. I exercise, I eat well but I’m about a stone overweight. I take supplements to reduce my migraines. I’m 39. Has anyone been like this and successfully turned their health around? Or am I just unlucky?

Thank god I’m self employed.

Poor you! I feel hard done by if I’m ill once in a year.

AdjustableSpaniel · 26/06/2024 06:54

Self employed just means you lose the money, in my unfortunately frequent experience. Sympathies -- I've had almost exactly the same run of 'shit happens' this year.

AFmammaG · 26/06/2024 06:55

As above, I haven’t been ill like that since one time in lockdown. I haven’t had any time off for illness in 2 years. Have you tried looking at supplements and improving your general health, more sleep, more water, more steps? I do exercise regularly and have a normal BMI but I’m older than you too.

AdjustableSpaniel · 26/06/2024 07:04

Doing more steps and getting more sleep is all very well in principle but difficult when flattened by post viral exhaustion and being up all night coughing! Yes to the vitamins though (as long as you can swallow them).

Take it gently and gradually if you can.

Thank you for the responses. I honestly don’t know what else I can do - I dog walk an hour a day, I supplement b12, vitamin d, zinc, multivitamin, magnesium. I’m in bed 11-7:30 every day, sleep about 7.5-8 hours. I barely drink - once a month and in one night about 3 drinks total if that.

Sorry that is miserable you must be fed up.I suggest drink lots of water, fresh food ie veg, salad some fruit and shift the weight .Imagine carrying an extra stone around every day.Are you supplements good quality ie bought from Natures Best..Cheaper ones are not the same strength. Good luck.Re migraine I used a Cefaly machine recommended by the migraine clinic at the hospital.I no longer have migraine.

Derdu · 27/06/2024 15:22

My sympathies! If it makes you feel better- I’m in exactly the same boat. Kids and I have been more ill this year than any other ever. I’m just cancelling another weekend away because one has a fever and the other is coughing like a seal. I have caught everything despite being fairly fit (running) not overweight, eat well, no upf. I’ve had three sets of antibiotics and the kids have too- they’re outdoorsy fit kids. I’m self employed too and massively behind with everything. I’m starting probiotics for all of us? Maybe some zinc? I’m at a loss to be honest and so SO over it. It is really draining and we’ve missed out on so many fun things. Hope you get out of the cycle soon…

I'm the same. Seem to have a virus every couple of months...combined with hideous PMT for one week every month,I seem to have more days where I feel awful than days where I feel good. Even one of my dc remarked that I never seem well.

AlwaysGrateful · 27/06/2024 17:22

I can't believe how many people are ill with some sort of cold virus/flu virus/covid/chest infections etc in the summer. Since covid I know so many people are constantly poorly now. It's depressing!

I've have started masking up again when I go the doctors or hospital as last time I took my Dad he came out with Covid and went in with heart issue. 🤨

Somerandomgirl · 28/06/2024 13:14

You're doing fine op, theyre completely random things you've had and bit unavoidable
If i start making a list of all the things we've all had here this year... you'll realise youre actually ok xx its never ending

molly5678 · 11/07/2024 20:32

@Comedycook gosh this is me! I’m always poorly, have been on and off for last 5 years…so many tests and all normal. My kids also know that mummy is always ill, it’s so frustrating. My body just won’t co cooperate.
latest virus has floored me for last 2 weeks, started to feel loads better then I’m awful again today. Utterly fed up

Greyblind09 · 11/07/2024 20:42

Sorry to mention this but are you sexually active and if so have you had a HIV test?

molly5678 · 12/07/2024 07:54

thank you for the suggestion but no I’m certain I don’t have HIV.

ThedaBara · 12/07/2024 07:59

I had this, and finally went to GP who did a blood test and found that I'm severely anemic with an underactive thyroid. Just go and get a blood test rather than spending more money on random supplements. I'm on iron now and feel much less run down, thyroid being monitored.

molly5678 · 12/07/2024 12:12

Thanks so much
I recently had blood tests for exactly that but all normal

Peonies12 · 12/07/2024 12:28

I'm very rarely ill, I think gut health is very important, are you getting lots of veg, fruit, wholegrains, beans, gut friendly foods like kefir, pickled things, kombucha? Getting fresh air so important, and washing hands after being out.

molly5678 · 12/07/2024 21:28

Thank you
yes I eat really well and take the dog out everyday and I’m really fastidious with hand washing
no matter what I do, I rarely feel well
