Stomach cramps after eating Cheese - but no problems with Milk

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else has the same or similar issues, both DD (18) and DH suffer from really severe stomach cramps and the urgent need for the toilet if they eat hard cheese such as cheddar, they are both fine with milk, ice cream and other dairy products, DH can avoid it and knows what he can and can't eat - he would always steer clear from a cheese sauce or pizza if out for example.

DD is suffering because she's just started going out with friends and eating out, and it's relatively new to her, she used to be fine but has taken to carrying Imodium around lately. she can drink a glass of milk without any issues.

I've tried to search google and I just get reverses results saying that cheese should be fine but to avoid milk - so this doesn't sound like lactose intolerance.

Other than completely avoiding cheese is there any remedy?

Thank you.

I'm fine with 'raw' cheese, but if it's heated - pizza, cheese sauce, grilled, raclette etc, I'm not in a happy place the next day.

Also fine with any other form of dairy - drink glasses of milk, eat yoghurt, ice cream etc.

I just presume my stomach is sensitive to whatever chemical change is created by the heating process and try to avoid, but it does make me sad, because pizza.

Has she tried using lactase pills? You can buy them from Holland and Barrett
