Are repeat blood tests normal?

Hello

so my immune system hasn’t been normal for a while now (just repeat colds and viruses!) so the GP ran full blood tests to check everything ok

I had the tests on Friday

they are mostly waiting review according to the receptionist but the full blood count says repeat test - the reception said she doesn’t know why and can’t give me any info as to whether it was abnormal or if the test was compromised etc

now I’m panicking and have to wait weeks for another blood test and results.

are repeat tests on full blood count normal? Ahh

At our health authority we book the blood test direct online at the local hospital, GPs have nothing tool do with it. Blood results are normally on my NHS app within 5 days.
Can you book a repeat test that way?

cockermum01 · 24/06/2024 14:41

I’ve booked one online but the earliest they had was 2 weeks & no word from the doctor as to why it needs repeating even tho the request came from the surgery not the hospital

Well I wouldn't panic. There could be any number of reasons. Suspect that if any were sinister GP would have called you.

Check the online booking, often they get cancellations and you can get an earlier appt.

Did they take more than one vial? I had mine clot before and they had to repeat. One vial was fine which was tested for some
things but the other was clotted.

I had a repeat a few weeks ago, it was because one of the results had come back unusually high, and they wanted to test again. The results of the second one were back to what they were expecting and the GP said that they had wanted to check to see if the first results were anomalous, which it seems they were.

cockermum01 · 24/06/2024 14:53

3 vials in total but only one currently showing as repeat

makes sense that hopefully if anything to worry about I’d have been given more info from the gp 🤞🏼

@incessantpunditry did they tell why they requested a repeat or did you only find out later?

@cockermum01 I have several regular blood tests at the moment to monitor a medical condition. The surgery told me which test it was, and that the doctor wanted it done again. It was a receptionist I spoke to, and she wouldn't give me the first result, saying that she couldn't because she wasn't clinically trained. The repeat results were back to normal again, and I had a telephone consultation with my GP who went through it all then.

If you are worried, please call your GP surgery and ask for a telephone consultation with someone who can explain why you need the test done again.

I’ve had a text at 6pm today just as they’re closing saying another of the results are back and I need to call them for an appointment with the doctor

Cant even remember what the others were - thyroid and glucose maybe?

If you have the Nhs app the results are often on there
