Any tips for AWFUL bloating?

Over the past few months I’ve been getting such bad bloating throughout the day, that by the evening I feel like I’ve gone up by about two dress sizes.

I had a c section last year and I feel like all the bloat just sits on top of my scar.

I would say I eat a fairly healthy and varied diet, I don’t eat loads of junk by any means but usually just eat three meals a day and maybe a snack mid-afternoon - but the end of the day I genuinely do look as though I’m about 20 weeks pregnant. It’s really uncomfortable and doesn’t seem to be related to anything specific that I eat. I drink lots of water and do a lot of walking out and about with my daughter.

I’m wondering if it could be hormonal as I have the contraceptive implant but am on a waiting list to get it removed (it was put in incorrectly) and due to a side effect of heavy and constant periods, the sexual health nurse recommended that I also take the pill along with the implant. This has been going on for several months now so I wonder if the hormones could be making me bloat? I genuinely can’t think of anything else that could be causing it. If I come off the pill I will just bleed nonstop.

I just wondered if anyone has any tips for natural remedies for bloating at all? It’s so uncomfortable and frustrating, I would be very grateful for any tips!

Sounds to me like it could be what you’re putting in. My bloat disappears gradually when I cut out all the usual suspects: alcohol, caffeine, sugar, gluten, dairy, processed foods.

Maybe worth a try cutting those things out for a couple of months (the change tends to be gradual for me hence advising that timescale) and seeing if it has an effect.

Carry on with the 3 regular meals a day without snacking in between.

Things like spinach and lentils can bloat you

AllTheChaos · 24/06/2024 00:39

Have you tried keeping a food and symptoms diary? That could help. Also things like peppermint oil can ease bloating caused by gas!

Have you looked at the foods you’re eating to see when it’s worst? So eg weetabix or cornflakes bloat me ridiculously, as does white bread- if I just have a boiled egg followed by a yoghurt or a banana for breakfast I’ve a whole different day!!!

Low FODMAP diet - go as strict as you can on the exclusion phase
Watch the legume quantities too
Check out enzyme supplements
Mebeverine / Buscopan

Good luck. It's crap Flowers

Could be gynae related. I looked massively bloated when I had endometriosis flare ups and large ovarian cysts. If it's new, I would see the GP.

In the short term, mint tea can be very soothing for inflammation or irritated insides

Thank you for your suggestions everyone 😊 I will try keeping better track of what I’m eating and see if there’s any link between the food and bloating. And thank you for the mint tea suggestion, I will give that a try too!

Fresh strong ginger hot tea, about a heaped teaspoon to mug of hot water
Move stomach in tummy button clockwork massage helps too

SirChenjins · 25/06/2024 08:27

Get that checked out before you start looking at your diet - bloating can be a sign of some gynae things (inc cancer), so if this is new get yourself to a GP to rule them out.

I'm the exact same OP. Implant in after c section last year and the bloat is awful. Did you see any improvement? Had lots of gynae appointments in the last 2 years with having a baby so not too worried it's anything sinister but I keep being asked if I'm pregnant again 😭
