My daughter has just shown me the back of her neck/scalp and it’s red and flakey.

She’s been complaining that it’s itchy for the last week but that this only happened in the last few days. Does it look like psoriasis?

How should I go about treating it? I feel it’s made harder being right in her hair!

it doesn’t help that it’s right on her birth mark, so most of the redness is from that!

It could be. Take her to the GP, they will be able to advise.

I get steroid lotion from my GP, it's easy to apply on scalp and calms the itching/burning.

T-gel shampoo also helps (but it stinks).

My 8 year old had patches of this and we had different creams prescribed by the GP which didn't really help. What did help was changing her shampoo to head and shoulders! Not had any issues since.

Looks very like psoriasis, my husband has it quite severely on his scalp, elbows, bottom of his back and knees but the scalp is the worst. He has had it since childhood and only in recent years has it been controlled because he would only see his GP who prescribed the same ineffective treatment for decades!! I got sick of the car, sofa etc being destroyed by him so eventually fought with him and got him to see a specialist, within a week his skin was the clearest it had ever been!! Now he can keep it completely controlled using what was prescribed by the specialist, stress and exhaustion will make it flare but it can quickly be sorted now thankfully. Get your daughter to a GP to start, hopefully they'll prescribe an effective treatment but please don't delay in seeing a specialist if the GP isn't good enough. Most importantly reassure her that with modern methods she will have clear skin.

Thanks so much all. Seems like a visit to the GP is the first step. I’ve ordered some Junior psoriasis cream but it looks like that’s just moisturiser really.

She says it’s ok at the minute and not too itchy. She doesn’t seem hugely bothered by it but it looks sore and itchy to me!
