I fell on the floor as my leg went completely numb today?!

Hi all,

I recently posted as I have COVID right now and suffer from asthma. I was thinking of adding this to the other thread but I don't think this perhaps is relevant to the original thread so apologies for making another.

I've had COVID for 5 or 6 days now, I am getting better and the only thing left is to regain my sense of smell - however, something odd happened this morning and I wondered if anyone had any experience of it and how (if at all) it is COVID related?

I woke up this morning and went to stand up out of bed and collapsed as my calf/leg was completely numb - I couldn't stand on it, it just collapsed underneath me. It was as if I'd slept on it funny, like if you sleep on your arm and your arm goes dead? - Does that make sense?
It's strange as it eventually came back to 'life' and I could walk, I didn't really think much of it until now as today I have felt shaky all day, almost like I haven't eaten in a while and you get that shaky feeling? (I have eaten well today). I'm still shaking now despite having eaten my body weight in chocolate. I also have a very strange heady feeling like brain fog but I do know that can be COVID.

So my questions are:
Does anyone have experience of this being COVID related?
Is it likely I slept 'on my leg' to make it go numb/dead?! My DH thinks I might have? Although when I woke up I was lying on my front with my legs out straight and this has never happened to me before.
Is the shaking likely to be low blood sugar? And how do I fix it?
Is this worth bothering anyone about? - I get worried about wasting NHS time.

I am otherwise well although I do have asthma and fibromyalgia.

Thanks!

I should add my leg has been fine all day! It's just the shaky feeling/brain fog that hasn't gone away.

Could be a TIA. Please seek medical help ASAP!

ConflictofInterest · 23/06/2024 18:42

I've heard of that being a stroke/TIA symptom you should go to A&E

Itsacatlife · 23/06/2024 18:42

Oh my gosh really? But I feel completely fine now!

But you don't because you still feel shaky and foggy

Do you really feel fine?

I don't want to scare you but my mum had the same - she woke up and couldn't use her hand properly. Spent a week in hospital being treated for a TIA.

You need to be checked out ASAP.

felissamy · 23/06/2024 18:47

Happened to a friend of mine, in his 30s. It was a mini stroke. You should get it checked out.

mynewusername2023 · 23/06/2024 18:47

The only symptom I had when I had a stroke (not a TIA) was losing feeling on my foot and leg. My bleed was in the area that affects sensation and almost 2 years later and I still struggle with sensation on the whole of my right side.

If you are still shaky, please please get medical attention. I had no other symptoms and the walk in clinix didn't think it was a stroke but sent me to a&e to be safe and that's exactly what it was.

Nat6999 · 23/06/2024 18:48

That's how I broke my ankle, had been sat with my legs under me, stood up & went down like a ton of bricks, exh heard a large crack.

ConflictofInterest · 23/06/2024 18:48

It's still worth getting checked out, a mini-stroke/TIA is sometimes a warning before a bigger stroke. My FIL had a series of 'dizzy spells' and it was only after being hospitalized with a main stroke that they said he'd several TIA's he'd mistaken for just dizziness.

JC03745 · 23/06/2024 19:24

It could potentially be a TIA or just signs of covid. Covid can present with weird, strange and varied symptoms. Better to get checked than not though. How old are you op? Any risk factors? On the pill, smoker or other health issues?

I did fall asleep at a desk once and stood up quickly. My foot was completely numb and unknown to me, I walked on the side of it then heard a massive crack, but felt nothing! Yes, it was broken! Not a TIA in my case, just napping on a night shift. 😬

Itsacatlife · 30/06/2024 18:38

Thank you all.

Sorry, it happened again in the day and so I went in and not a TIA - it turns out I had/have very very low phosphate levels, which can cause numbness and weakness! No idea why it's so low so I need to follow up with GP.
