Will I regret this? Tooth question

Any experiences of having a second molar removed? Will be left with only one front molar and quite a gap after that with no wisdom tooth either! Plus points would be hopefully no pain. Worries are - I have all teeth on the other side but still will I be able to chew food enough? - will my face show the loss of this tooth missing over time? - will my other teeth suffer and possibly go the same way due to the lack of support from the missing tooth? In a bit of a dilemma as although I'm in some pain right now it’s manageable and I don’t want to walk away and regret having it pulled when I could have held on for longer! Any experience appreciated 😊x. (The tooth in question has had fillings in for years and has about had its final day)

In that situation I'd have in pulled and find a way to have it replaced with an implant as I think you'll end up having more issues. I had both back molars removed on top (one each side) and dentist said I should be ok but anymore molars after that would be an issue if not replaced.

Implants are about 3 k now. A bridge might be a cheaper option, or a partial denture.

I had my second right hand side molar out about four years ago, had no issues at all since. The gap is not that noticeable to others, or at least no one has ever commented!
The tooth started crumbling after having DD, I put up with it for years but it had to go when it got infected.
I would consider an implant if I suddenly had spare money but other than sometimes having to chew on the other side it hasn't been a problem.
Good luck, I found it was worth no more pain.

Sorry should have said, it was a bottom molar

Thanks for the replies 😊I will definitely look into having the implant (hopefully they do some kind of payment plan!) so if anybody has experience with that would be great to hear about also x

Hi op. How are you doing? I am in this dilemma now and trying to decide what to do

cleo333 · 20/01/2025 20:48

I've had implants after a bridge fell off and the teeth holding it came out too ! After loads of tears I had implants which were expensive but needed as the teeth the other side became poor because I was only eating one side .

Implants are the best thing I've ever done but get a good dentist to do it as it is like an operation , not a simple procedure

You'll want a denture or a bridge or an implant ideally. I don't think it's good for you to only have teeth on one side. It can misalign the jaw and put bad pressure on the opposite teeth.
I'm sure the dentist will advise you.
