Are there any IBS suffers out there? im after some home treatments to help me.
It effecta my daily life so much it’s really getting me down.
I dread going out for dinner, weather it be round someone’s house or a restaurant.
I feel like I live off Imodium some weeks.
I dread leaving the house early as I can’t get off the toilet somedays.
I’ve got a few trips planned which require early mornings because of flights etc and I’m already worrying about not being near a toilet.
The abdominal pain is so bad especially just after I’ve eaten, the food hasn’t even hit my stomach and I’m running for the toilet.
I’ve been to the doctors numerous times and had tests and they basically told me I was at the back of the que when they handed out the bowels.
im after any tips or tricks that could help me.
any advice is massively appreciated!
Thankyou

I sympathise.
I think it's trial and error, what works for one doesn't work for others. So eliminating food groups may help.
I've found I can't tolerate oats, sugar or too much spice. I've also found that 16:8 has helped. I also take a Probiotic daily.

The two things I've found made a really big difference were following the FODMAP diet and taking caprylic acid every day.

FODMAP tells you the foods that are most likely to aggravate - but of course everyone is different. Cutting out the main two (onions and garlic) made a massive difference to me.

The caprylic acid acts as an anti inflammatory in the gut.

I'm no expert and have tried many things over the years but these two have made the symptoms so much better.

Hi, came across this in my notifications. I have a neighbour, female friend who has IBS. She had it for years and watch what she eat and drink. Avoid spicy food. We used to visit other neighbours and joined in BBQ, house parties etc. You can lead a normal life. I can ask her. Are you IBS D? Do you go to the toilet to empty your bowels a number of times daily? Is it worse in the day? How long have you had it? Have your GP diagnosed it properly? Hope your problems solve. Take care.

Really sorry to hear you’re suffering with this… my husband was diagnosed with it 20 years ago, was told he just had to learn to live with it, and felt utterly wretched with it. A few months ago a friend recommended he do a food allergy/intolerance test. He did (we paid for it) and found he had a major wheat and rice allergy. It’s been an absolute game changer for him, he wishes the doctors had suggested it. Apologies if you’ve already tried this; I know there’s many different reasons for IBS, but I had to mention it as it has changed his life and may be worth trying if you haven’t. Hope things improve for you.

You may not want to take medications, but amitriptyline has really helped my IBS. I had a massive flare up last summer that lasted 3 months, they had to do a colonoscopy as had high calprotectin in a stool sample and thought it was crohns. Luckily it was negative, the Dr's gave me a trial of low dose amitriptyline and its changed my life. Might be worth looking into you.

@GG1986 thanks for your message, I was put on citalopram for a bit, I didn’t feel it made my difference but maybe I didn’t give it time. I’m just so worried to mess my normal routine. but it might be another option for the future. Thankyou

I have found taking a probiotic and eating Greek yoghurt daily has really helped.

This is quite old now, but is a useful elimination diet to try. It originates from Addenbrooke's hospital so is reliable. It is a bit of a challenge to stick to, but if you have a food intolerance you should feel better fairly quickly.

I take an immodium every night. I no longer need to go to the loo eight or nine times a day. I'm also no longer on b12 jabs as I'm keeping more of the goodness from food in.
I've narrowed down my triggers to onion, dairy, too much wheat and sugar.
It is trial and error really.
