I am aiming this question at those mum's who are of a herbal disposition and have experience of these creams...thanks...
Ds has had on going nappy rash, which has not cleared up now he's out of nappies, so it's now called eczema...this recent flare up appears to have gone fungal so on the advice of my natropath I have been giving him pro-biotics, avoiding body heating foods i.e chocolate, yellow cheese, marmite etc. Using a very good brand of nettle/chickweed/calendular cream with a drop of teatree mixed in..it's not shifting, so have decided to go ahead and use perscribed hydroquartisone but have been advised to use it twice daily for two weeks, this seems like a long period to me...could anyone advise or share their experience with me, thanks

Kjaysmum - by using it twice daily for the two weeks you might never have to use it again.

But if you skimp it could turn into an ongoing thing

hydrocortisone will help to clear up the eczema, but if he also has a fungal infection he would need something else for that.

Hydrocortisone can be bought over the counter at a Pharmacy and is the weakest of all the steroid creams. It has a long history of use to treat eczema....I had it as a child and I am now in my 40s

PS not a herbal sort of a gal myself

I would agree.
DS1 had dreadful eczema all over when he was tiny, I wouldn't use Hydro--whatsit but went for homeopathy, natural creams etc. He was bad for 6 months and finally grew out of it.

DS2 was similarly riddled with the stuff. I used HC cream for 2 x 2 weeks. It cleared it up almost immediately.

TheFallenMadonna · 08/04/2008 22:13

Have you been prescribed it recently? If you think the skin has become infected you should probably go back to your GP and get him/her to have another look.

pointydog · 08/04/2008 22:17

we have used loads of it on dd2 with no ill effects so far (she is 9).

pointydog · 08/04/2008 22:17

ah. I am not of a herbal disposition though.

"hydrocortisone will help to clear up the eczema, but if he also has a fungal infection he would need something else for that." There is one cream which contains both. It's yellow, smells horrid and has to be kept in the fridge. The name will come back to me soon . . .

I was of the herbal camp, but tried 0.5% cream reluctantly on ds2s excema. It didn't do much to help. Then we were prescribed 1% hydrocortesone for a nasty outbreak. It is magic. Agree with the twice a day for 2 weeks and hardly needed it again.

Notquitegrownup · 08/04/2008 22:21

PS but have you tried that magic stuff for the nappy rash - begins with M . . . oh gawd, I need to go to bed!!!

Thanks for replies, I'm in New Zealand so we have different medications here, but have just checked the pescribed cream and it does contain an anti-fungal cream as well as hydrocortisone, I hadn't checked for that, thanks for pointing me in the right direction, I think I shall bite the bullet, so to speak, and go for this cream, I can't stand for him to go through this anymore..thanks again

kjaysmum · 09/04/2008 22:15
