I have pain in my ear and jaw on the right side. There doesnt seem to be any swelling but can only open my mouth enough to get a finger in. I am feeling really quite unwell, shivering vomitting amd had a temp. Also but dont think related had hives. Not sure who is best to contactct dr or dentist.

Listen I have tmj and my jaw sometimes locks. It’s normal and eventually relieves itself. Vomiting, fever and shivering are all signs of an infection. Go to A&E , stop pandering about ringing 111 or dentists etc they won’t do anything. Get to the hospital and you’ll be seen. You’ve had sepsis once you don’t want it again and the way you’re heading you’ll get it.

Go to A&E

Either go to A&E or get an emergency dental appointment tomorrow, you don’t need to use 111. Call your area’s emergency dental helpline or Google a local private emergency dentist

Go to a&e. You may have an infection in your masticator muscle. In any case it sounds like you have an infection and need to be seen by a proper doctor.

Not as bad as a kidney stone or endo...those are top of the scale pain(I've had both)! Pain sounds distracting and distressing...you can't do normal things, you can't eat...please see a doctor!

I hate these threads, I'll worry until OP has seen a doctor...

@largeprintagathachristie how did you manage to get seen at a dentist? I am pritty sure I need abs but 111 seems to think its grinding due to stress and wouldnt give an appointment.

I hope you're sorted by now.

I had gone to A&E initially, they couldn't identify what was going on and said I should see a dentist. Perhaps I was lucky but I think that was just a case of ringing my normal dentist up and they gave me an emergency appointment. I was overjoyed when they actually said it was a salivary gland infection and there was a solution.

Like a previous poster, by this point I was self diagnosing TMJ but it turned out not to be that.
