Pancreas?

I really need someone to calm me down and before you say see your GP, I am being followed up but while waiting, I really would love to hear that I'm over worrying. Also, it's important to note I have severe HA.

I am worried I have chronic pancreatitis or even worse, pancreatic cancer. I'm 41, slim, female and for the past 2 months, I've been having intermittent upper left abdomen pain that goes to my back. Nothing excruciating buy it's there. I have mild indigestion and some loose stools which occasionally will float. No weight loss or loss of appetite.

I do have gallstones but that pain is upper right side and I don't have that. I also heard gallstones can cause chronic pancreatitis.

I do drink wine but I'm not a heavy drinker.

The upper left pain which I can also feel in my back is worrying me. On a scale of 1-10, its a 3.

Waiting on bloods results and scan. Anyone had similar symptoms that turned out to be nothing too serious while I wait?

Hello

I was wondering if you anyone could shed some light here?

You really can't expect a diagnosis on here. You need to go to a dr.

WifeOfSnore · 24/06/2024 13:02

What I can tell you is Dp had/has pancreatitis and the pain was so bad, he was virtually inconsolable

They gave him a 50/50 chance of surviving

It's a horrible illness and i think your pain would likely be more than 3/10 but because you have the gallstones, better to get it checked in case it's leading to that

PanicAttax · 24/06/2024 13:07

I've had sharp pains about an hour after eating for months - they've discovered i've got hyperthryoidism though so despite putting me in for CT scans I have had to cancel them because, the NHS in it's wisdom, decided to leave me nearly 2 month without medication, so I couldn't have the contrast. So now I have to wait for the meds for the chronic condition I had to beg for multiple times to take effect before we can discover why I can't eat and am dropping 2Ib a week. I also have the same pain in the same area. I am also worried it is my spleen as FBC show very low lymphocytes. It's not much help but maybe (assuming you don't have thyroid issues) you can ask for a CT - don't be fobbed off with an ultrasound or Xray.

I had pancreatitis (as a result of gallbladder/stone complications) and the pain was constant and very bad. It was in a similar place as a gallstone attack but constant pain rather than waves of pain (like a typical gallbladder attack).

I couldn't keep anything in my stomach (including water) until I got IV meds.

It doesn't sound like pancreatitis to me, but it easily ruled out by a blood test.

PanicAttax · 24/06/2024 13:09

Just seen you said your pain was a 3, mine nearly made me pass out and went on for about 30 minutes each time. Could feel the blood draining from face, retching and thinking I was going to collapse in public...so maybe not quite the same.

Honestly, it sounds like you've gas

No-one on here can or should diagnose you online on here. You really need to see your GP to be examined and get some blood tests done.

If you read my post you would have seen that I'm waiting on blood results and a scan so I have already seen the Dr. I did not ask for a diagnosis on here.

@PanicAttax sorry to hear all of that I hope they can find out what's wrong soon.

Thanks all. Mine is low level niggling pain which I don't always feel in my back.

I don't feel sick and have a good apatite but all the other symptoms I listed bother me. My blood have come back normal but still waiting for scan date to come through.

I would have thought gallstones but the pain is predominantly on the left..

Any weight loss?

My father died of pancreatic cancer, pain levels were collapsing as a result, extreme weight loss, jaundice, regular burping, stomach ache (but he has an ulcer so powered on).

I would say it’s unlikely from what you describe but you are doing the right thing to get checked out.

Lees83 · 24/06/2024 15:45

@RickyGervaislovesdogs sorry to hear about your father.

No weight loss, not a lot of burping, but the niggling left side stomach pain/stitch as I described above. Of course this illness has crossed my mind and scares me so much as I have 2 young children.

Maybe impo to mention that I used to have a stomach ulcer which an endoscopy a few years ago confirmed that it had healed. Not sure if it means my ulcer is back?

Thank you. There was a family history of stomach related cancers on my dad’s side. His appetite was good throughout (oddly).

Pancreatic cancer is quite rare, I believe. Could possibly be your ulcer making a return.

You are doing the right thing by being seen, you don’t smoke (my dad did, heavily until I was born and then he quit, he was also a rugby player so I presume he would have drunk a lot too.) My parents had me later in life. He didn’t go out once I was born and wouldn’t smoke or drink around me, neither did my mum.

There’s lots of factors. If you are are so worried it consumes you, I’d consider gene testing perhaps? I don’t know if that would make your anxiety better or worse. I am probably at greater risk due to family history, but I don’t want to know! Maybe have a chat about your worries to your doctor and go from there. Constant stress isn’t good for you either.

Any word? I’m going through this myself convinced I’m dying
