YP - I have loop diothermy (is this the same as you had to have?) For a few days after the 'op', I had what felt like nasty dragging pain, like bad period pain, but no more than that.

I had an internal anaesthetic which stopped it hurting. Did you not have the same? Could you ask for one?

You will be ok, and have just reminded me that I am well overdue for a smear .

Hope it goes ok.

Did you have a plastic patch attached to your leg to cancel out the electricity? Isn't colposcopy just the method of viewing? It has been a while so forgive me if I am talking crap. My treatment included an electric coil 'loop' which removed my pre-cancerous cells. As I said, I had numb bits, otherwise I would imagine it would have hurt a lot. Perhaps your doctor can tell you?

If nothing else, they should use the spray of lignocaine to freeze the area before doing the diathermy.

Just tell them you had a bad experience before, and ask them what they will do this time

YP - you are not at all pathetic. I hate even having a smear and tense up whenever a speculum in waved in my direction.

Sorry to hear about your friends .

I'm confused as to why you have to have any treatment for cervical erosion? Its not harmful
