Heart attack in your 30’s?

Trying and failing not to panic. DH has gone to a&e with a suspected heart attack. He was seen immediately and now waiting for the results from the blood tests and ECG. He’s only 32, doesn’t smoke, do drugs and only drinks occasionally. He is extremely under pressure with his own business, a home renovation and two kids under 3 though. He’s a little overweight which has crept on with stress and living in temporary accommodation for a couple of months with limited cooking facilities.

Anyone know when we should get the results back? I’m obviously at home with the kids and DH still in a&e with pressure in his chest. I literally have no idea what to expect and I’m just completely overwhelmed. His dad had a stroke at 35 but lead an extremely unhealthy lifestyle.

That's a lot for you to be coping with OP.
My DH has been admitted to hospital twice with a suspected heart attack. He had the same kind of tests that you describe and got the results whilst he was in A&E that day. On both occasions he was given the all clear. Stress and anxiety can cause symptoms very similar to heart problems and it sounds as though your DH has been having a stressful time on many levels recently.

I know it's hard but try to stay calm. Your husband will be being monitored very closely and is in good hands. I hope all is well for you and your family soon.

He’s in good hands and safe. They won’t discharge him until they’re 100%. It’s not an emergency situation now so try and rest.

All the best to you.

AnotherVice · 18/06/2024 21:06

Not to say it's definitely not a heart attack but to reassure you, if it definitely were, he wouldn't be in A&E, he'd be in the cardiac unit where they can fit stents if necessary.

Ozanj · 18/06/2024 21:10

They won’t let him go without performing all the tests they need to. But to reassure you three of my friends had heart attacks in their 30s and were seen and treated immediately. He’s at the best place possible so try not to worry x

Knitgoodwoman · 18/06/2024 21:12

Try not to worry Op he’s in the best place! Anyone I know under 50 who went into an and e for anything heart related was discharged and nothing found more than anxiety/panic attacks. It’s good he’s getting checked though as you can’t always be sure 👌

A few years ago when my dad went in for some tests, they hooked him up to the ECG and within a couple of minutes their eyes went wide and they said "Mr *** stay right where you are, Do not move, you're having a heart attack right now".

The results if there's something drastic happening are pretty much immediate.

He was in having a quadruple bypass 2 hours after he walked through the front door.

Sorenlorrenson · 18/06/2024 21:15

@AnotherVice . I spent the night in A+E with a heart attack, ther was no room on the cardio ward.

BoilingHotand50something · 18/06/2024 21:22

Hope you get some news soon. As others have said, other issues can mimic heart attack symptoms and if it does turn out to be a heart issue, then hopefully this can be treated and he will make a full recovery.

Leftittothelastminute · 18/06/2024 21:41

As a pp said, an ecg will show immediately if it's a heart attack. My mum had a heart attack a couple of years ago but the ambulance people suspected a panic attack. They hooked her up to an ecg, looked at each other and said to me ..... 'we need to go, and we need to go now'. Bloods are normally back in a few hours, and then he might have more tests like an echocardiogram. Fingers crossed that it's nothing serious, but he is in the best place.

StripedPiggy · 18/06/2024 21:50

Try not to panic, OP. He’s in the best place.

If his symptoms indicate he may be having a heart attack they will get him hooked up to an ecg very quickly. That will tell them if there is a problem with his heart. If he is having a heart attack they will probably want to insert a stent into his artery asap. This will be done conscious, & probably via a small tube inserted into his wrist or leg.

Good luck.

I had an ambulance called for chest pain when I was about 30 – was stress

Incognitomato · 19/06/2024 13:14

I had a heart attack last year as a fit, healthy 47 year old. I wasn’t even told I’d had one, it wasn’t until my husband came to visit me 10/11 hours after I’d been taken in that I overheard them telling him. However - to reassure you (hopefully!) I’m fine now, take my medication and try to live an even healthier life than I did before although I have always been a healthy eater, non smoker and runner. Hopefully he hasn’t even suffered a heart attack and is fine!

jaychops · 19/06/2024 16:08

How is he doing OP? Hope all is well.
