Metrogel for possible rosacea

I have been diagnosed as possibly having very mild rosacea (spots and small dry red patches next to nose and spots in chin area). Have been prescribed Metrogel, but have very sensitive skin and I'm worried it may exacerbate the dry red patches I have. So far no matter what moisturisers and gentle exfoliants I have used, nothing has worked!

If anyone has ever used Metrogel could you please tell me your experiences of it, any info would be appreciated.

Bumping for you.

I also have mild rosacea (recently diagnosed) and haven't heard of Metrogel.

My GP gave me Zineryt which is a mixture of zinc and erythromycin which is an antibiotic. It is a clear liquid you put on affected areas with something like a mini roll-on deodorant.

I have been using it for a couple of weeks and there is a slight improvement in the bumps/spots but the redness is still there yet. It is making my skin dry and scaly when it wasn't before but the GP said I had to persevere for 6 wks to get the best idea if it will be effective.

Good luck with your treatment !

I used Zygomet which is like metrogel, a topical anti-biotic like a gel. I get type-1 rosacea and usually take oral anti-b's, but tried the gel as the tablets caused thrush. I didn't actually get much relief from the gel, so went back on the pills I'd like to try the zineryt as i've heard good things about it. One of my 'triggers' is my sebaceous glands' overworking, so any drying up will be good.I think most of these gels will dry out the skin, if you are sensitive.

Have you tried it yet?

I have only used it on my chin, which was not so dry, but the skin there does seem slightly drier this morning. And to top it off I have a small bright red area on my nose, I REALLY hope it is just a spot (although cannot see a head or swelling). Why am I so vain???

You can get metrocream, it's what I use for my small to maderate flares of rosacea. I found the gel dried my skin too much and flaked under make up. I use antibiotics for severe flares and if it becomes papopustular, but so far the metro cream is working well.

Agghh

I have just got home from a busy day at work, no time to wee never mind check my face in the mirror.

The Zineryt lotion has really dried my skin all of a sudden and it has undertaken LIZARD-LIKE properties!! It looks bloody awful and no-one had the decency to tell me "...errr, excuse me, did you know your nose is falling off??...."

Gah

OMG I don't want it if it's going to do that!

LOL

Panic over

It is sorted with the application of some ordinary moisturizer. I was just peeved that nobody had told me...a bit like when you have a bogey or spinach in your teeth and you are the last to know !
