Good evening I’m having surgery for a deviated septum in a month and I’m really anxious about it, the things I’m thinking about the most is the anesthesia and recovery afterwards, I’m generally a anxious person when it come to health anyway, has anyone had this surgery? What was your recovery like?

Following this with interest because I think I have to have the same op.
Hope not goes well for you and hope somebody can help with their experience.

I am on waiting list for this surgery. I have no clue how it's going to be.

The worst thing about it is a couple of hours after op they pull the tampax out your nostrils that feels as if your brains coming out. I didn’t realise the shoved them in so far up your sinuses.
I had two weeks off work after as generally felt very tired and exhausted.
The big pluses were I stopped getting repeated sinusitis. Mine was done because I had sleep apnea and needed to breath better especially as I had to use a face mask.

My daughter had deviated septum repaired, and rhinoplasty with a bone graft at the same time. She was completely fine & went home on the tube later in the afternoon! She was very very bruised & swollen the next day and the day after and her eyes were black & closed. She was shown how to clean it really thoroughly, which she did and it didn’t get infected. All the dressings were taken off after a week and underneath it looked like nothing had happened. We were so surprised after how bad it had looked. Honestly, don’t worry, we couldn’t believe how quickly it had healed. Choose your surgeon carefully though.

Thank you for the replies, iv herd about the packing they do to help with the bleeding and that could be quiet up comfortable especially when they pull it out! Iv got young children so I’m worried about going under anesthesia and if I wake up or not after it, it just scares me so much, I’m in 2 minds to cancel the op, I’m also worried about how bad it will look after don’t want them to get scared seeing me like that.

Hi,
I realise this is an old thread, but just wondering if you had the surgery and how it went?
