Insect bite - help please

DD was bitten by something last week. Wasn't a big deal, just a small red lump on her arm that was occasionally itchy.

After 5 days it became much more itchy and for the last couple of days has been driving her mad.

Overnight she has obviously scratched in her sleep and taken the top off so it was bleeding slightly. The whole area is inflamed, diameter of redness is about 50p piece but it isn't very hot to touch.

Out of the shower now and it isn't itching anymore but looks red and sore.

What is better, cream or antihistamine tablet? Or can she do both?

I've done both in the past. But check - a lot of creams you can't use if the skin is broken.

Thank you.

I spotted that you can't use on broken skin so was thinking on putting it on the red swollen bit but not the little spot which is open.

I'm just so worried that having flared up after a week it might spread if she keeps scratching.

I always react to insect bites, and the itching can last on and off for days. Especially if you scratch them.
Sometimes if I am bitten again a week or two later, it can set the itching of the old bites off again.

Good old Sudocrem helps my bites heal and relieves the itchiness.

Snap! Had one last Summer that itched on and off for months!

I'm like this too, I can flare up like a golf ball, but I'm so disciplined about never scratching!

DS is like me, but this is the first time Dd has ever had a bite like this and she is 21!

It was the scratched head that panicked me this morning.
