Arrgh teeth. I have a tooth that has suddenly gone loose, are they all going to fall out?

I've had a feeling of soreness for a couple of weeks, right at the upper back of my teeth.

Realised when I was brushing that the very last tooth at the back there is loose, I can move it with my finger.

Why should this happen?

I'm not aware of any gum disease.

Got a dentists appt for next thurs, but should I be expecting bad news?

When you say loose, how loose?

clumsymum · 08/04/2008 12:47

well it moves about. How do you measure looseness?

Sorry, I guess it is hard to describe/measure looseness....daft Q!

OK, so is it actually wobbling, like a child loose toothe would, or does it just 'give' a little?

I ask because our teeth are set in a tissue that acts like a shock absorber, so each time we bit something our teeth naturally move, because if they didn't, they would break/hurt as soon as we ate something.

So I am tying to assertain if this is all you feel, or if it is looser.

If it is looser, as you may know back teeth are notoriously hard to clean thoroughly, so plaque can get into the tooth/gum margin & do a little damage.

No, it is actually wobbling.

My dentist has always said I'm pretty good at brushing, but I guess that might be it.

I guess he'll just have to take it out? We're off on a 3 week cruise next week, I don't want trouble with it while we're away

May not need to come out, you never know. I have known teeth to tighten up after a week or so!

Can you see the dentist sooner?

sandcastles · 08/04/2008 13:30

If you can't get in sooner, here is what I would do......

Lots of gental flossing

Lots of hot salt water mouthwashes

Use Corsodyl twice a day for a week

If you have an infection this could help clear it up.

Thanks SandCastles.

I am seeing the dentist on Thursday, so only 2 days to wait.

That's good, I thought you meant Thursday week!

clumsymum · 08/04/2008 13:59

no, we'll be at sea by then (and I'll be gumming my food to death)
