Serum cholesterol 6
Serum triglyceride 1.3
HDL 1.9
LDL 3.5
Ratio 3.2
Non high density lipoprotein 4.1
I am f 60 y

Maternal grandfather 71 y
Paternal Uncle early 50s.
Paternal cousin 64yr
All these 3 relatives died instantly from a heart attack.

I eat a very healthy diet. Nothing I could cut out without losing vital nutrients.
Mid healthy BMI
Exercise 1 hour most days.
TT ,non smoker.
Mild leaky heart valve.Under 2/3 year review.Okay though.

Consultant cardiologist wants me to get LDL less than 2.5

GP wants me to go on 20 mg statins.I don't want to . Worried about short and long time side effects.

Does anyone have experience of this ?
Would I be ridiculous not going on them?
Many thanks for this .

In that case it is worth trying the diet route first.

I'm on them and I take one every other day - originally on atorvastatin and it gave me weak wobbly legs and a general 'out of it' feeling on 20mg- moved to rotuvastatin and o don't get the leg issue- or the out of it feeling- I think atorvastatin is cheaper- I'm sure I read that! My figures very similar to yours but had been higher at 8.1 initially

Yes,I am going to tweak my diet as well as take the statins.
Are your figures similar to mine after taking the statins?
This is all so helpful.

@oneboy3girls no my figures now are slightly lower than yours - but they were like yours about 3 months 'after' taking statins- but started higher than yours

DH is on Rosuvastatin 20mg. I got it wrong. He was started on 80mg of Atorvastatin but suffered a lot of cramp.

Crikeyalmighty · 15/06/2024 17:58

@RampantIvy I had the wobbly weak legs on 20mg atorvastatin- goodness knows how I would have been on 80mg- I am only on 5mg of rotuvastatin

I seem to recall some people in the clinical trials had more muscle aches on the placebo than the people did who were taking a real Statin.

Why not take them & see if you're in the vast majority with zero side effects, OP?
