Worried I might be pre-diabetic

I have had recurring yeast infections for years to the point where Boots will no longer sell me flucanazole because I have had it too often, and more recently I have also had oral thrush for which I am on nystatin. I have heard about Candida overgrowth and I think I definitely have it, although I don’t know why I have got it. I have been feeling extremely tired lately and have noticed that if I eat anything sweet I quite often feel really tired and unwell and my heart races about an hour afterwards. I also often feel dizzy and off balance and just generally not that well. I have regular blood tests and have always been reassured that I am not diabetic. However I went for a wellness check a couple of weeks ago and had a fasting blood test. My blood sugar level was 6 and the nurse said that was normal and because of my BMI and lifestyle questions I was very low risk for diabetes. She told me this quite confidently. I am 41, and I weigh 8 and a half stone and 5 foot 3. However I have since read that anything over 6 is pre diabetes so now I’m really worried??? Am I pre diabetic or just the high end of normal?

Thank you. It could be my age....when I was younger, sugar never made me feel any different, but I know in recent years, I do sometimes have this horrible tired feeling after eating sugar. Another thing is that I can no longer tolerate alcohol in the day, even a small amount....whereas when I was younger, it didn't bother me....now if I'm at an event such as a wedding, I will wait until the evening around 6pm before I allow myself any alcohol, and I sit there wondering how everyone else is able to drink in the day and not feel unwell later on?

I'd try cutting out sugar strictly and processed carbs.

I get funny dizziness as well mostly mid afternoon, noticed I got it a lot less after I cut out the pasta salads and carb heavy lunches.

I can't drink much but I think that's just a menopausal age thing.

Thank you. Going to have a big review of my diet....massive diet/exercise overhaul I think.

i may have missed it, but have you been to the GP to discuss the recurring yeast infections? they can also put your mind at rest and give you a test for diabetes.

i have something called a high renal threshold, so although i have sugar in my urine, its never makes it to my blood. I've been pre-diabetic a couple of times, but diet and exercise have sorted that out quite quickly.

my husband is type 2, is on medication and is no way overweight so yes people of average build can also get it

Yes, several times, and once a year I have the Hba1c test, and it's always okay, it was just the high fasting finger prick test that alarmed me, plus my symptoms, however I don't get anything like a raging thirst or frequent urination?
