Chicken Pox

Hello all, after a bit of advice.

DD (3.5yrs) has Chicken Pox, we are currently on day 2 with spots, but she was not right on Saturday either (day before the spots appeared)

I am keeping her topped up with Calprofen, but she is still very lethargic and generally not herself (as I type she is lying in bed, snoring away gently). She has a runny nose and dont get me started her poos this morning

Are there any remedies/ little tricks that you have tried that makes this time slightly less miserable for dcs?

Thanks

Baths worked well for my two. Put about half a tub of sodium bicarbonate (you'll find it in the Baking section of the supermarket) in the bath. Warm, but not hot water. When she's sitting in the water put a tablespoonful or more of cornflour in her hands and let her squich it in the water. She can have as much cornflour as she wants, and play in the water as long as she wants. Add more hot if necessary, but the bath should never be a hot one. You can also put porridge oats in a length of stocking, knot it, and let her squidge it about in the water as well. All these things are very soothing for the skin. Tepid baths are also good for reducing fever.

You can let her have as many baths as she wants during the day.

Thanks for all the advice. Am off to find the bi-carb and cornflour!
She is tucking in to ice-cream as I type, so I think she is feeling slighly better

Hi my 3 year old has chicken pox at the mo. She generally felt unwell, lethargic, clingy temperature about 2 days before the spots appeared. We now on day 5 after first spot appeared and they are crusted over (sorry!) I also found the bicarbonate of soda in the bath helped. Also I bought some calamine cream from chemists, this stays put and is easier to apply than the lotion. I also think sleep is a good thing as this is when the body heals itself.

My DS (19 months) has chicken pox at the minute as well. We've found cool baths with bicarb are working well, then covering him with calamine cream. He has spots on his tongue and I think possibly in his throat poor thing because he's having trouble eating - he wants to eat but it hurts when the food is in his mouth so he's been living on weetabix and yoghurts for the last few days.

He got himself really upset the other night, I think the spots were so itchy and uncomfortable that he just didn't know what to do with himself - he was rolling about on the floor screaming, he wanted a cuddle but when we picked him up it irritated his spots more so he thrashed around to get down again. Even CBeebies, blanket and milk (which normally solve everything!) didn't help. Luckily it only lasted a while and he slept well and has been getting much better snice then, spots are scabbing over now.

Hope your DD feels better soon.
