Hi, I've been diagnosed with the above following a bout of strep throat, has anyone had this and whats your experience of it been like? I'm struggling to clear my skin

I’ve had this a couple of times. You should try to be referred for UV treatment, that works well in clearing it. Also exposure of the affected skin to sunshine ( if we get any!)

MorrisZapp · 10/06/2024 22:56

Yes, I had it after tonsillitis. The guttate part refers to raindrops so it's always nice to have a gutter related skin complaint!

It was pretty bad but from memory I think I got the old style cream that you have to be careful not to burn your healthy skin with, and it cleared up.

Every now and then I ask the doctor if science has brought us anything decent for psoriasis yet but it seems they're pissing about with driverless cars instead. Much sympathy.

My 20 year old dd has had 3 bouts of it all following tonsilitis. First was when she was 6, then 9 and 18. The last one has only recently fully cleared up.
She was referred to dermatology with the first attack but by time appointment came it had almost cleared up. I dread to think how long wait is now.

Im having the second flare up of my life - 20 years since the first. I get the odd handful of spots every now and then, usually when im really run down, but there are very long periods between the big flare ups for me.

I manage with steroid cream and a couple of sunbeds, but find that its really hard to keep on top of when there is a full-body outbreak.

StarkMalark · 11/06/2024 00:10

I had it in my mid twenties after tonsillitis (I used to get recurrent tonsillitis resulting in having them removed when I was 28.) My GP actually suggested sun beds (!) In the end I had a week in Majorca and the sunbathing cleared it up within 48 hours. I really feel for you. I looked as though I'd been dipped in red paint when I had it.

MegaClutterSlut · 11/06/2024 08:34

I have it. Had light treatment which cleared most of it for a few weeks but then soon came back. Tried steroid cream too but that wasn't much good. Mine gets worse every summer 🙄 but retreats a lot in winter. Have never managed to completely get rid of it im sad to say but many people do

I've had this following strep throat a few times. Lasts 4-6 months. I had the light therapy the first time which did help I suppose. The dermatologist suggested regular holidays in the sun to keep it at bay (I wish!)

ThankGodForDancingFruit · 17/06/2024 22:20

Just stumbled upon this thread through Google as dealing with it now, GP was a little useless as he said it usually clears up within 3-4 months! I also have ‘regular’ psoriasis, which has flared up at the same time.

I have a steroid cream and vitamin D cream for that, which he said I could try. But it’s hard to get an accurate application, just on the spots.

May have to try a short sunbed session…

My son has had a few bouts of this. It was only when we paid for a private dermatologist appointment that he was diagnosed with. He was prescribed a really expensive mousse treatment that worked. I'll try and google the name of it.
Again linked to tonsillitis.

MissyGirlie · 18/06/2024 08:58

I'm coming out of my first bout, and the steroid mousse I was prescribed is called Enstilar. That and a heavy-duty moisturiser (cheaper over the counter than by prescription, £4.90 rather than the ££ of a prescription) got on top of it within a few days.

I have no idea what triggered mine.

ThePoshUns · 18/06/2024 10:37

Ah enstilar is what my son had. It was the only thing that worked for him.

GossamerGirl · 18/06/2024 10:41

I had this after a strep throat too. Steroid creams got rid of the spots (temporarily) but did not to treat the underlying issue. Taking lots of Vit D3 worked for me.
