Toddler's diarrhoea what is it? How can we get rid of it?

Hi
DS1 is 11 months and had a course of antibiotics 4 weeks ago which gave him the runs for a few days, but ever since then he has been getting loose nappies (not full blown diarrhoea) interspersed with some normal poos and some bouts of proper diarrhoea.
Took him to gP this morning to see what he had to say because he is otherwise fine and well, eating well etc. He wants to send of a stool sample but also said it could be toddler's diarrhoea. i have read about this somewhere in a magazine, but wondered if anyone knew anymore about it? What causes it, how can we get rid of it? Is it common in 11 month old, he isn't exactly a "toddler"!!

My ds1 had loose poos off and on (mostly on) until he was over 2. As far as I understand, quite a few babies & toddlers have this tendency as their digestive systems are still maturing and eventually they grow out of it. Hence the name toddler diarrhoea. I found that too much clear apple juice made it worse, and certain other things like baked beans.

His poos have been solid since he was about 2, but after a bout of 'normal' diarrhoea (some bug) a couple of months ago (he is now nearly 4) his poos took about 3 weeks to return to normal. The HV said this was entirely normal in young digestive systems. She recommended those pro-biotic yoghurts or drinks (not sure about those for an 11 month old tho...you could check), less milk, less fruit juice, low fibre diet until it returned to normal.

Ive heard of toddler tummy, which could be the same thing. My ds had runny poos up until he was about two, and I sort of got used to it to be honest! They became a bit more solid when he was potty trained...dont know why! Theyve been more of a normal (!) consistency for about a year now, but the other day dh got him to eat loads of veggies (almost died of shock!) and his runny bum came back! It was vile to say the least...but hes fit and well, definitely not poorly! It must have just been all that yummy food he ate until he was two, and then discovered sweets and other junk!
