Could this be a tick bite?

Just reading a BBC article on tick bites and I thought about the rash I got 11 days ago. At the time I guess I was worried enough to take photos, but then thought it wasn’t tick bites as not traditional round bullseye, but the with two bites it wouldn’t be anyway. I also thought it couldn’t be as I had only been in my garden, but now I realise I had walked down a path with long grass brushing against me for about 8 metres in an area where there are deer and rabbits. I’m not normally a worrier about health, but it this could be tick bites then I guess I need to start antibiotics now. Any ideas from anyone who has experience of tick bites gratefully received! Really hope it was just ant bites from garden! Paracetamol blister pack shown for size, site is inner thigh near knee.

Yes quite possibly - my DDs was the same - it's the two prongs that make it suspicious to me. But tick bite doesn't mean Lymes, only in some cases

I get horse fly bites that look like that and I also react that way with flea bites.

Tulipvase · 08/06/2024 21:21

That would be some hell of a tick if that were puncture marks! The ticks I’ve seen are pretty tiny.

CurrentHun · 08/06/2024 21:27

Would the tick remain attached to you if it was that?

Lovemybeautifulgarden · 08/06/2024 21:32

This looks really like a black fly / blandford fly bite I (and others) seem to get in SE London. Really painful and can lead to sore joints etc as well as local reaction

I've never seen 'tick bites' with two puncture wounds, with ticks you usually get one puncture and the tick is still there until you remove it! Also as far as I'm aware you don't need antibiotics for a tick anyway! Unless you have the bullseye rash after a tick I wouldn't be visiting my GP - I had one last weekend and my dh a couple of days ago, we live in the countryside, it happens, no need to panic!

Every time either I or my kids or husband have had a tick bite ( we live on the continent and ticks are common) you find the actual tick which you then have to remove. You don't just find a random bite and no tick attached.
So I'd say probably not a tick.

Ticks don't just bite. They burrow their head in the skin and stay there until they're either removed or they've absorbed enough blood and they swell, turn purply grey and drop off.

Possible a spider bite or even an adder has taken a shot at you but not fully bitten.

Tickbiteconcern · 08/06/2024 21:57

Thank you all. I was worried that the heads of two ticks had been left inside after the body had dropped off. But it seems unlikely now, I’m reassured and won’t bother doctor unless suddenly unwell. So unlike me to panic, have had much more caffeine today than usual so maybe that’s why! Thanks again.

Definitely not tick bites. And unless you pulled them off the heads wouldn't detach, the entire tick drops off once full, and they waddle off to digest their meal .
But keep an eye on the bite, if the red area grows and or it feels hot or painful, then get it checked out by a pharmacist.

The two puncture wounds make me think perhaps spider?
