Cut won't heal! Any ideas?

It's been weeks. It just split one day when I was walking, I think

I thought I was walking on a stone but it wasn't. I had just got a cut in the toe crease

Why won't it heal? It's been weeks. I've even tried plasters and no improvement Sad

Is it because of the area?

Don't think athletes foot. Just one singular cut

The rest of my feet lovely and soft. No problems

I imagine it's because it's right on the crease where you have constant movement?

Might be worth getting some steri-strips to try to keep the edges of the wound closer together

Have you tried a Compede plaster?

It's too late now for it to heal by what's call primary intention (when the two sides of the wound come together and heal across it)

It will now have to heal by secondary intention - this means it will need to heal layer by layer by layer - which is much, much slower.

It's a tricky location because of movement - a hydrocolloid plaster (like compeed) might be useful if you can find a smaller one that fits the area because it promotes the right sort of environment for healing - unfortunately because I imagine you do wash your feet regularly they work best when they remain in place for several days and do not soak off in the shower/bath.

Only advice is to keep the area clean, try and avoid sock fluff getting into it - maybe put a layer of vaseline over it in the morning and at night.

If you have diabetes or any other immune system/ chronic health problems I think you would need to have a chat with your practice nurse for advice - the other person who might help is a pharmacist or if your GP has a podiatrist.

I superglue any splits. I rarely get them nowadays but there was time when my feet were in water a lot outdoors (bare feet) and I seemed to get them every now and then.
