ds gets a hoarse voice when he's got bad asthmatic wheeze

hard to know in such a young baby

I would get it checked out tbh

BalletMum · 06/04/2008 21:16

Don't want to scare you but has he got a cough with a wheeze at the end too? Could it be asthma? Just a thought...

BalletMum · 06/04/2008 21:16

x thread ggirl!!

MerlinsBeard · 06/04/2008 21:18

no cough and no wheeze either. his breathing is fine and regular.

Hes not very happy at the mo which makes me think its something

do they diagnose asthma in such a young baby? I know i wasn't offically diagnosed until i was 5!

maybe worth just calling nhs direct

brimfull · 06/04/2008 21:19

they diagnose much earlier these days but not as young as 4 weeks I don't think

avenanap · 06/04/2008 21:20

It may be asthma, it may not. I really would get it checked out though, give NHS Direct a call.

brimfull · 06/04/2008 21:21

by daignose I mean treat really

ds has been treated since he was just under 2

the thinking is that not treating a wheeze damages the lungs in the long term

MerlinsBeard · 06/04/2008 21:34

just re read my OP and obviosuly i mean CRIED not bried! should learn to spell check!

I don't think i need NHS direct right now this minute. TBH their advoce with a small baby would either be GP which obviously i can't go to until tomorrow or A&E which i don't think he needs

In what way do you mean hoarse? Is it when he coughs or cries? Is he breathing normally?

MerlinsBeard · 06/04/2008 21:42

he has no cough. its only when he cries. his breathng is fine, no noise to it at all, no rasp or wheeze on the inhale or exhale.

haven't been anywhere smokey. DP smokes but outside and is forbidden from holding ds3 until at least an hour afterwards (yes i am that anal!)

He also hasn't cried abnormally loudly or exessively

google not coming up with much either

He may just have a sore throat. You should take him to the GP tomorrow though or call NHS Direct if you are concerned.

meep · 06/04/2008 21:45

Just a sore throat? I was hoarse last week with a sore thoat and dd had a bit of a croaky squeaky voice.

MerlinsBeard · 06/04/2008 21:47

why did i not think of it being just a sore throat?

Googled recurring hiccups and it came up in a list of symptoms for reflux along with hoarsness so will se ehow we get on tonight and ring GP in morning
