Calf pain after flight / DVT. Get it checked or not?

I'm prone to a health anxiety so looking for a sense check here.

I had a six-hour flight last Thursday. Near the end I noticed my left calf was hurting, and when I stood up to get off it was pretty bad.

With the health anxiety as soon as I was home I googled DVT. I was reassured that I just had muscle strain based on what I read:

  • No swelling in the calf
  • No skin redness
  • When I flex my toes upwards, the pain doesn't get worse

However the pain in my calf hasn't lessened at all and now I'm getting anxious again. Shouldn't a muscle strain be feeling at least a little better? And now I just read a case study of a man who had pain without swelling or redness and did turn out to have DVT...

If you don't suffer from health anxiety and you were in my situation, would you be making an appointment or would you wait longer to see if the pain resolved?

Yes I would for my own peace of mind

I'd get it checked out, soon.
Probably not DVT, but in the slim chance it might be, soooner is a good idea.
But mainly, you will then be able to stop worrying about it.
And when it's all ok, you'll be able to refer back to this, when something else worries you, and remember that few of our health worries actually come to pass.

definitely get it checked out. Calf DVTs don’t always have much swelling . The higher in the leg the clot the greater the swelling. Does the calf feel tight??
A 6 hour flight is a definite risk factor.

I would DH had multiple DVT's in both legs without calf swelling and redness.

Thank you all. I really try not to waste NHS time so it's really helpful to have your advice. I'll call for an appointment tomorrow.

olympicsrock It doesn't feel any tighter than the right one so maybe another good sign?
