Please help me figure out why I'm so exhausted all the time

I've been like this since I can remember. It seems to have gotten worse over the past year or two.

There's genuinely not a second of the day that I'm not tired, I sleep well at night, eat well, exercise.

I've had blood taken, everything is as it should be.

On a day off, I cannot get through the day without a nap. When I'm at work, I spend the whole time utterly exhausted and thinking about climbing back into bed to sleep.

It's really affecting my quality of life. I'd love to have another DC but there's no way I could cope with the lack of sleep.

I was thinking chronic fatigue, but the only symptom of that I have is the exhaustion. Nothing else.

I can't live like this, please help!

Low iron? Lack of vitamin d?

Have you tried floradix? The advert literally says tired of being tired. It really works.

Sunnysummer24 · 03/06/2024 22:28

Do you have your blood test results? Can you share them?

pastabest · 03/06/2024 22:28

Did they test for coeliac disease?

ProvincialLady2024 · 03/06/2024 22:29

If I eat refined carbohydrates I feel exhausted and desperately need to sleep. Maybe try cutting them out?

What did they test for?

GeckoFeet · 03/06/2024 22:29

Take a multivitamin daily plus extra vitamin D.

I know it's difficult to do when you are already exhausted but please consider 10 minutes of exercise first thing in the morning. Jogging on the spot, a brisk walk, youtube pilates anything to get you slightly out of breath. The endorphins could really help you.

Centrum are the best, if in doubt. They are what are prescribed in most NHS areas, when needed.

DuckEggy · 03/06/2024 22:34

Sometimes blood tests don't include blood sugar - was this tested? Thyroid? Vitamin deficiency?

LiterallyOnFire · 03/06/2024 22:42

B12 isn't on the CBC/FBC panel, either.

Savoretti · 03/06/2024 22:45

Do you ever feel faint, light headed?

Chocolateteabag · 04/06/2024 22:41

Magnesium deficiency?

It's been in the news last week as being n issue

Beanieton · 04/06/2024 22:50

Do you eat red meat? I was a vegetarian for the best part of two decades and was perpetually bone tired despite eating lots of plant iron sources. Since I've reintroduced red meat, the perpetual exhaustion has disappeared.

endofthelinefinally · 04/06/2024 23:15

Do you snore? I am wondering about sleep apnoea.

VolvoFan · 04/06/2024 23:22

Has there been a change in diet recently? Have you switched brands for certain foods when doing grocery shopping? Tiredness/fatigue has many causes. My DH had ME/CFS as a teenager, and it took several vials of blood and an incredibly caring and patient GP to get the diagnosis. I hope you get answers soon 🙏

Pixiedust1234 · 04/06/2024 23:35

What was your iron/ferritin level from your blood test? You need it to be at least 70.

All vegetarians and vegans have to supplement their diets with B12 since it is mainly from animal based products.

I had always supplemented B12. It wasn't that, but it's good to raise awareness of the importance of B12 too.

I had a cancer scare about 6 months ago, so was tested for a list of things as long as my arm. The doctor said everything was textbook.

B12 is fine.

I eat red meat too.

Thank you all for responding.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Could be hypothyroidism

fruitbrewhaha · 05/06/2024 17:21

can you share your actual blood test results? A photo will be good. Many gps say your results are fine but you may be deficient. The laboratory bar is set very low.

Chickenuggetsticks · 05/06/2024 17:24

Honestly if your ferritin level is below 30 it could be that. NHS is shit on womens health a lot of the time, the reference ranges are too low. Also TSH can be considered to be fine when it’s really not, my endo keeps mine around 1 and prefers women to have ferritin levels at around 50.

Pixiedust1234 · 05/06/2024 18:16

What were the figures and lab ranges for the B12, ferritin and TSH? As pp ssid above, GPs have previously told patients that a reading of 18 ferritin or similar is fine but you need a level of 70 for healthy hair growth. Massive difference.

I've just had blood tests for iron, blood sugar, thyroid, etc, all normal apparently- my iron is 38, and I feel completely shit. I've been prescribed ferritin previously ( last course finished at Christmas) so I was reasonably confident they'd prescribe a course again but no, as it falls between their "normal" range of 28 - 200. I'm recovering from a heavy cold as well, which is dragging on. I've ordered ferritin fumarate online. Hopefully that'll make a difference.

Pixiedust1234 · 07/06/2024 12:31

38 is still low when you need to be around 70 but it seems the UK don't care you are struggling as long as you won't end up severely ill.

Hopefully having OTC iron will help. I found my energy changed after 2 weeks taking a spray form, my DD found hers changed after 3 weeks (Feroglobin capsules). Both of us now feel reasonably human again.

Please update after a month of taking yours as it will be very interesting to see if it's helped you as much as it did me. Good luck!
