My father was diagnosed with MS at about 50 years old but had probably had symptoms for longer. He refuses to acknowledge he needs medication and stubbornly carries on with awful symptoms. I'm approaching 47 and have been displaying symptoms such as chronic fatigue, muscle spasms and flashing lights in my eye. Eye test has ruled out that the issue is with my eye. I have a brain scan scheduled on the 18th june. They say MS is not genetic but family can be predisposed to getting it. Has anyone any experience or had similar please? Thanks

I'm sorry to hear about this. Not direct experience but my brother in law has had MS for about 6 years. He changed to a vegan diet plus fish (which I think is a recommendation for people with MS) and is still very active (hiking) and has a good job. He's 60. I don't know what medication he's on but he's a good advert for remaining active with MS. I hope you get good news on this op.

@Joco34 I can imagine how worried you are OP.

I have MS, from the symptoms you describe it doesn’t sound like MS to me.

No one in my family has MS other than me.

I saw neurologist a couple of years ago as I was having very bad visual disturbance, severe pain in my right hand, and vertigo I thought it was my MS, but Neurologist said no, looked at my age, and said the symptoms were of a hormonal nature.

Great that you are having MRI head, that will hopefully give you reassuring news.

Good luck OP, I hope the symptoms improve quickly for you. Flowers

Can you describe the flashing lights?
When do you get them - what time of day, what are you doing at the time.
Are they always in the same place in your vision?
What do they look like, circular, large, small, lots of them, arc shaped?

(I'm an optometrist)
