My horrible verruca

hoarahloux · 03/06/2024 20:44

I've had a single verruca directly on the ball of my foot for several years.

Its positioning means any patch or plaster doesn't last, even if I hobble about on the side of my foot all day or tape it on. I've tried various gels and freezing treatments, the surface peels off and I think "oh, it's gone!" but the fucking thing goes so deep. The best was the Scholl treatment pen, that stopped it being painful to walk on, I had a crater in my foot, and I really thought it had killed it, but the crater healed and it's still there.

NHS won't touch it, I can't afford to go private. Is there a treatment that actually works?

This thread is severely lacking in verruca pictures.

Obviously not visited Sporners Corner before!

NewName24 · 03/06/2024 23:37

I had one for a long time that none of the suggestions about duct tape, creams from the chemist, banana skins or anything else worked on.
Like you it was just where the toe joined the foot and was very difficult to cover with anything anyway.
GP hadn't a clue
Pharmacist 's advice didn't help.
I even ended up at a dermatologist at the hospital doing a biopsy on it.
Tried a chiropodist who said I needed to continually "agitate it".
She said keep filing it. Then your brain sends messages down to fight it. Keep doing this for a few weeks - literally filing it with a nail file (I'd tried pumice stone before and it wasn't aggressive enough).

this worked for me.

I had a really large wart once (different to verruca granted) but the only thing that helped it fall off in days was apple cider vinegar taped to it overnight for 3 nights I think. Was amazing. I've had verrucas just disappear out of the blue though.. Good luck

I had one in the exact same place OP, absolute nightmare to treat because of the placement (and my sweaty feet) meant nothing would stick or stay in place. Tried it all anyway, no good, had it for over a decade, about the size of a ten pence piece.

I eventually got rid of mine with a very persistent chiropodist and the swift treatment. But I really did get lucky because it didn't go in the expected time scale and I had to have more appointments. I had the first zap just before COVID, then I was able to keep going as it was classed as a medical appointment / treatment course. Obviously the chiropodist had very few clients coming in, and three teenagers at home he was keen to avoid, so he was bored and wanted people to chat to / feet to prod! Which meant that after the standard round of swift zappings failed, he just kept going - but without charging me more. I think that I paid for the standard course of 4 treatments plus a follow up appointment, and actually had 8.

@Jossse did you try the thuja? Interested to see if it worked!

NCnora · 29/07/2024 21:48

Thuja tablets also worked for me! Dozens of horrendous warts on my fingers....gone!

Jossse · 30/07/2024 10:48

@Verrucahelp sadly not. Ironically I've just been to podiatrist again this morning and been informed of new treatment using zinc tape, white vinegar and alcohol. Will be doing this now going forward. Fingers crossed. How's yours?

Gettingbysomehow · 30/07/2024 10:52

Yes there is bit it's quite expensive. Dry needling under local anaesthetic. I'm a podiatrist and had a pretty good success rate of 95%.

As a teen I dug a verucca out of my foot. It bled like a MOFO and hurt like hell but I got the whole of it- root and all and I never had a verucca again. It was incredibly satisfying.

My greatest achievement in life was getting rid of a cluster on my ds' foot. He must have had 20 of varying depths. I had to be persistent for weeks - applying bazuka and removing and reapplying every night. Some were easy, some stubborn. Thankfully they haven't returned.

Yes, this worked for us with both DD and DH. The key is persistence - Bazuka and file, Bazuka and file, Bazuka and file.........every single day for weeks. It worked, though.

RickiRaccoon · 30/07/2024 11:27

COVID vaccine? I had a verruca which cleared up after the vaccine. I looked it up and there is evidence to support this as a side effect of the vaccine.

@Jossse Good luck! Do you do that at home? I started Salactol last night. It worked when I had one years ago so fingers crossed it works this time too! I've tried Scholl plasters, Scholl pen, bazuka, a half arsed attempt at tea tree.. it's been nearly a year now, which I know isn't long compared to others, but it's such a pain with OCD!

I am NOT a doctor but it might be worth checking if your little boy has immunity issues. Sometimes a mass of persistent verruccas can indicate that.

mewkins · 30/07/2024 13:36

Luckily they have not come back in 12 months. He was susceptible to eczema when little but thankfully has outgrown it.

Verrucahelp · 30/07/2024 14:50

Out of interest, do people walk around barefoot at home? And no socks when in bed? I don't because I feel like if I ever get rid of it I will just catch it again! But I also have OCD and know this isn't rational!

Zimunya · 30/07/2024 16:59

@Verrucahelp - yep, I walk around barefoot (unless it's cold). DD and DH have had verrucas, I never have.

@Zimunya thank you for replying... did they walk around barefoot then when they had them?

Zimunya · 30/07/2024 17:35

Yes, absolutely.

coxesorangepippin · 01/08/2024 03:19

Yeah what's with the fricking quack methods and asking for photos??

You'll be talking about banana peel soon
