Can you buy it over the counter in the UK or the US?

I thought fresh air and wet towels on the rads was the usual treatment? (Unless it deteriorates obv)

Nemoandthefishes · 06/04/2008 11:19

need to go to walk in or A+E and they give one dose of the steroid which lasts 3 days

TheBlonde · 06/04/2008 11:22

I'll see how he is and maybe call the out of hours doc

Yes, like GM says I think the first thing to try is humid air - steam up the bathroom, or towel over head and bowl of hot water.

Wet towels on radiator in bedroom at night, or if you have a humidifier, have that on.

Having an extra pillow can help the breathing/cough too.

Not every case of croup will require drug treatment.

Sorry if you know all this.

bodiddly · 06/04/2008 11:24

a humidifier really helped with my ds but then again he wasn't bad enough for us to go to A&E fortunately

TheBlonde · 06/04/2008 11:28

Thanks all, we have humidifiers etc
I am just foreseeing a crappy night of barking and upset and wondered if I could do anything else to avoid it

My DS was prescribed pink steroid tablets to dissolve in water - Prednisolone in the UK.
