Croup - can anyone tell me what the medicine you can get for it is called?

we were given dexamethasone oral steroid. Not sure if this is what you mean.

it's prescription only as far as I know (in the UK)

yes, the oral steriod stuff, DS has had it before but I didn't recall the name

I thought fresh air and wet towels on the rads was the usual treatment? (Unless it deteriorates obv)

need to go to walk in or A+E and they give one dose of the steroid which lasts 3 days

Yes, like GM says I think the first thing to try is humid air - steam up the bathroom, or towel over head and bowl of hot water.

Wet towels on radiator in bedroom at night, or if you have a humidifier, have that on.

Having an extra pillow can help the breathing/cough too.

Not every case of croup will require drug treatment.

a humidifier really helped with my ds but then again he wasn't bad enough for us to go to A&E fortunately

Thanks all, we have humidifiers etc
I am just foreseeing a crappy night of barking and upset and wondered if I could do anything else to avoid it

My DS was prescribed pink steroid tablets to dissolve in water - Prednisolone in the UK.
