Without googling - would you know what the current position is if you test positive for coronavirus?

Assuming you’d test at all as I know we don’t have to anymore. ( i think? )

No

OnceICaughtACold · 30/05/2024 13:25

Stay home if you’re too sick to work/study. Ideally stay home for 5 days but there’s absolutely no obligation to do so.

But I did google it relatively recently following a discussion about school attendance…

EasilyDefined · 30/05/2024 13:25

I assume there isn't a position unless there are specific rules for your job or similar.

AmusedMaker · 30/05/2024 13:32

Thank you!

feeling achy & have a sore throat so I will test, I just wouldn’t have had a clue what we’re supposed to do now as we don’t really hear much about it anymore.
looks like it’s just treated like any other respiratory illness ( unless your Job has specific rules around it )

Why test? It won’t help in any way and there’s no need to change your normal behaviour.

it’s virus. We don’t throw a whole barrage of tests at every cough and cold just so we know which virus it is.

JJJJuniper · 30/05/2024 13:37

Please DO test if you are going to be near anyone who is vulnerable. A close family member has cancer and was very very poorly last month with Covid.

gingercat02 · 30/05/2024 13:38

I work in the NHS, and we have been told not to test unless unwell. If you test +ve, you can come to work if you are well enough. I was ill on Tuesday (typical as I was on leave) and haven't gone in today as I still feel ropey, but I will tomorrow. Haven't tested as I don't see the point!

CerealPonderer · 30/05/2024 13:40

I'd have no idea. I'd assume it's stay home for....5 days maybe?

Toddlerteaplease · 30/05/2024 13:41

If well enough, still have to go to work. (Nurse)

Citrusandginger · 30/05/2024 13:46

You need to think of it like you would any other virus and to bear in mind that some other viruses such as flu may make you feel worse than coronavirus, now that covid is a mild illness for many.

Are you well enough to work? Are you likely to infect colleagues and the public and are they vulnerable?

I wouldn't get too hung up on whether you have CV or not, but do look after yourself. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Winnading · 30/05/2024 13:50

I work with vulnerable people, we have to test and stay off if positive.

However we only test if someone else has it. And at our own expense, they dont provide tests for us. So most of us just dont test and stay off if ill until we feel better.

But I dont know the official guidance.

It will help me. I can get antivirals which will prevent my non existent immune system landing me in hospital again. They stop covid in its tracks.

BeaRF75 · 30/05/2024 13:56

I wouldn't know, because it's years since anyone tested for this. It's a non-issue.

AGlinnerOfHope · 30/05/2024 13:56

For most people, testing makes no difference. Either you are well enough to mingle or not, regardless of the illness.

Obviously people in particular roles or with particular health needs and their carers will have different needs.

I’m always surprised the average person tests.

13Bastards · 30/05/2024 13:59

Just carry on as normal, no need to isolate (legally) of course morally is another matter I guess.

My DP still works for a company that gets 10 days off paid if you catch Covid, it's like 2020 all over again 😂

Same here. I had covid in April and even with antivirals I was ill for 3 weeks. Then there is the inevitable flare up of my auto immune disease.
I wish there were easily available tests for other viruses as well as antivirals.

mitogoshi · 30/05/2024 14:19

Keep calm and carry on Grin

It's recommended you stay away from vulnerable people and consider wearing a mask if you need to be in a public place

gamerchick · 30/05/2024 14:21

Treat it like any other lurgy. Don't sneeze into other people's eyeballs.

Suncream123 · 30/05/2024 14:21

I wouldn't test

This!!
It's still killing people and those who have a compromised immune system are particularly at risk and it's frightening!

SilverSimca · 30/05/2024 14:37

I would assume it would be the same as anything else, if you feel ill stay at home, if not crack on.
I don't necessarily agree with that, in fact I do find that a bit odd given the advice on viruses like chicken pox is very much to stay at home as it is bad for pregnant women and old people to catch it, but Covid no.
I would test as I regularly visit care homes. And the two times I had Covid it was horrible and I have been left with difficulty breathing, so I am not the "its just a cold brigade.

I totally agree, but NHS rules is come to work if you are well, even clinical, even ward staff. It's madness imo.

Treesaleaving · 30/05/2024 15:19

Its stay at home for 5 days after testing positive I think.
I had it 2 weeks ago and was sicker this time round than last. I don't drink, smoke, average bmi, eat healthily and exercise yet I still couldn't catch my breath and had crushing chest pains. I was on my own and had no one to call for help aside from 111 which I almost did. It was terrifying. I dread to think how people with ongoing conditions suffer. I was lucky enough to be able to stay home. I know some people just can't.
