Pregnancy induced tendonitis

Hello everyone,

I have suffered pregnancy induced tendonitis on both wrists, I thought this would go as soon as baby arrived but I gave birth almost 1 month ago and both my wrists are really painful.
I am taking paracetamol and ibuprofen everyday due to he C section I had but it is not really maiking any difference, and having to lift baby all the time ( a mighty baby boy called Dorian who was 9pound 7 and 22 inches at birth) makes it really hard.
Anyone out there suffered from this and back pain with advice for me?
No doubt I will be asking many moree questions since I am at a loss with many aspects of motherhood.
Take care eveyone.

Just sympathy - I had carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists (which started 6 weeks post birth) and it was awful - I have to say it really marred early motherhood for me. Have you seen your doctor recently to see if there is any more they can do. You have my every sympathy - sore wrists and baby is awful.

i feel for you as I get this around my ovulation cycle and it does hurt. Are you wearing wrist supports, you can just buy them from the chemist. It helps support the wrist and then it gives it time to heal.

Mine got so bad once I went to see my osteopath, he did manipulate them and it really helped. Hurt like hell when he did it but two days after I had no pain at all.

Good luck

Go to GP and try to get urgent physio referral.

Do you apply ice and/or warmth to your wrists? It's soothing and helps with the swelling and inflammation.

Gentle stretching of the hands, backwards and forwards. Physio will advise.

Don't let anyone suggest immobilising or splinting the joints, as this will generally make things worse.

My sympathies, it is dreadful. Mine is not PG related but have had it on and off for years. Lots of different treatment. Physio was brilliant. Don't be afraid to move your hands, as moving them is better for them and will make them feel better (obviously don't move them in a way tht is painful.)

Def see your GP - if your not happy with the help you get ask to see another - I saw two - the first was useless - tried to tell me it was water retention!! - I saw a second and he was much more helpful and though it was a long process got me on the road to recovery. It would be hard to deal with without a baby - but when you have a yourng child to look after its a nightmare (I don't think all GP's twig that it isn't just about you) - good luck and cross fingers it gets better before too long.

I had dreadful carpal tunnel syndrome in my wrists during pg and it has only just gone away (dd is now 4 months old) so it may be that it just takes a while to die off. i'd also recommend a visit to the docs to check whether this is the case.

I had this after my first baby and got referred to a consultant who gave me a steriod injection in the wrist. I couldn't move my wrist the next day but it got better over the next few days and have had no probs since (3 years ago). Is very common after having a baby apparently. I waited 7 months after my baby arrived before I went to the GP - tried wrist splints etc - but really wished I'd gone sooner.
