Lump under jawbone - pain radiating down neck and shoulder

Hi all,

I woke up this morning and had slept awkwardly on my left shoulder, I’m unsure if this is related or not. About half hour later I noticed a solid lump just under my jaw bone, this does move slightly but it’s very firm. The pain is radiating from this lump through my jaw, behind my ear and down my neck. The pain isn’t horrendous, more of a pulsating burning feeling. If it’s still there in the morning I’ll speak with Gp but does anyone know what this could be? The lump is a bit bigger than a marble

Hi

Could it be a dental issue? Do you have a wisdom tooth that side?

Hope you're feeling ok.

I had this and my was an infected tooth! Massiveumo under my ear on my jawline. Funny cos I didn't have toothache or anything. Went away after I had anti B's and tooth pulled. More than likely a dental issue.

I think it sounds like a dental issue. Hope you get it sorted.

It could well be a dental issue. My teeth are absolutely horrendous but I can’t afford to pay the private prices and there is no nhs dentists taking on.

Hi

Have you phoned 111 - depending on the situation, they may refer you to an emergency dentist?

It's worth a call.

I haven’t as of yet, the lump has reduced in size so I’m hoping it’s on its way out. If it’s bad tomorrow, I’ll ring them. Thank you x

Good idea to phone 111. Dental infections can get very painful quite quickly and you may need antibiotics.

I had an infection under the root a couple of years ago. It started with a hard lump around my jaw. It spread really quickly but cleared up with antibiotics. I ended up having to have the tooth extracted once the infection had gone down.

DirtyDensDog · 29/05/2024 11:04

@Zombieof3 how are things with you today?

Zombieof3 · 29/05/2024 11:24

They’re ok, funnily enough, I woke up with toothache which isn’t great. I called 111 and asked for advice or an appointment with an emergency dentist however they were not interested at all, stating that it’s only for dental emergencies. So it looks like I’m stuck with this until I can find myself an nhs dentist which could well take years at this rate 🙃
