Can someone help me understand these blood results

Morning !
I had bloods done at the gp as I'm constantly exhausted, always needing to pee through the day and night. And some stabbing pains in my kidneys. I'm also 31, don't drink or smoke. Generally a healthy lifestyle if that helps.
These are results. I know my vitamin d is low so I've ordered supplements for that. But the other results look abnormal. And when I have used google (I know I know) it's saying my kidney function isn't as good as what it should be. But the gp has marked my results as fine no further action?

Hi OP,

Can't help, I'm afraid, but bumping for you. Would also be interested in replies, as I have similar issues with thirst at the moment, both daytime and nighttime. Quite a bit older than you, though (50!).

Hope you get some replies.

Hi - I have had so many struggles with blood tests and GP. I can't even get mine, despite having had 6 in the last 3 months I am yet to see a single one!

It looks as though you have kidney function issues affecting Vit D absorption to me. Is there any chance of going private?

ladybirdsanchez · 27/05/2024 09:15

You should contact your GP and ask why they see this as no further action, when the results clearly show that your kidney function is below normal levels. You should insist on further investigation.

VolvoFan · 27/05/2024 09:16

I'd ask ChatGPT. Doctors Google so much stuff now anyway.

Jo7890123 · 27/05/2024 09:23

The kidney research website suggests that it's quite an approximate measure of kidney function, and says 'A normal eGFR is greater than 90, but values as low as 60 are considered normal if there is no other evidence of kidney disease.'.
But it doesn't solve the symptoms you've been getting, so I'd make another appointment, go back, thank him for those results, ask him to explain them, and then ask what's next to determine the cause of your problems. Sometimes GPS seem to lose track of the fact that they're meant to be helping with the issue, not just ordering a test!

You could also get a test for celiac disease and ask about Crohns? They can be underlying causes so might be good to rule them out and you can get celiac tests online.

Not meant to be giving medical advice but no. Kidney function is below normal for age but nowhere near bad enough to affect vit d absorption

Everyone pretty much is vit d deficient (I've seen 5 normal levels in about the last 300 samples I've sent)

https://cks.nice.org.uk/topics/vitamin-d-deficiency-in-adults/prescribing-information/vitamin-d-supplements/ that's loading advice

Go back to gp and ask why they feel your kidney function is sub par - have you had an ultrasound?

Theres lots of causes of fatigue, vit d makes lots feel non specifically meh - things like full blood count is more useful a test, as is thyroid screens etc

Frequently peeing needs a diabetes screen if not had already

Thankyou for all the info ! I had a full blood count also and it was negative for celiacs and also diabetes. I shall have a look at the chatgp now !

I'm a renal nurse. Your kidney function is a little low but not low enough for treatment. Do you drink 2 litres of water a day? If not start doing that and you should start to see an improvement. There's not enough results shown to advise anything further unfortunately.

Thankyou for replying :) I do drink over 2 litres a day to try and fill myself up in between meals. Is it normal for the gp to think these results are okay ?

I've just literally a couple of weeks ago had very similar blood results on the eGFR for kidneys, spoke to my GP and she said it's normal for my age (38) and nothing to worry about - hope that helps!

SallyWD · 27/05/2024 09:53

The eGFR - I was also told that anything above 60 is OK. I have one kidney and my result is often in the 70s. The nurse always says "Great result, it's like you have two kidneys!".
But definitely speak to your doctor.
