Neck pain postpartum

I’m 2 months post part in (incase relevant) and I’m experiencing a dull pain at the back of my neck. It’s starting from the top of the spine, almost feels like the area connecting the spine to my head, and the pain feels spinal, and stops at the centre of my neck.

About a week ago I had more of a muscular pain, the pain you get in your neck when you’ve slept in a poor position. It hasn’t gone away after a week and I now feel it on the spine.

Turninf ky head left and right is painful.

Im waiting until Monday to see my GP (well get an appointment). I wondered if it could have anything to do with my posture as I’m always holding baby, sometimes my breastfeeding posture is very poor. Sometimes I sleep sitting up or with baby on me.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Text neck?
Too much time on your mobile, at a laptop, hunched over baby?
Look up “Text neck pain.” Even if you’re not texting, similar situations and positions can bring it on.

Try ice packs or warm pad/hot water bottle. Paracetamol, Ibuprofen and any exercises Mr Google advises.
Gently does it.

Yes. It caused me years of pain as docs kept looking for medical answers. It got worse & worse as the muscles became tighter.

I eventually found out it was cervicogenic headache. Mine got so bad I often couldn't function.

It was from poor posture & the strain on muscles of carrying / holding babies. I now stretch twice a day, including stretching the shoulder & chest muscles.

I have something similar from working at the computer. I see an amazing physio who really helps. She also suggests using tennis balls to reduce the tension between appointments. You lie on one or two, with your head slightly supported eg a low pillow and basically roll around until you feel the tight spot. Giving yourself a massage. You can also do it standing against a wall but I prefer the lying down option. Not sure what the GP would do other than refer you to physio. Also do some gentle neck and shoulder stretches and be more mindful of your posture.

Thanks. I’ve looked up text beck and it matches the pain.

I have a physio follow up next week as I had PGP so I’ll mention the neck pain and hopefully get some support/exercises.

I was absolutely convinced I had something really terrible as my neck pain was awful and crunched a lot of I moved it plus awful back of head headaches- came on post covid- 20 months later it has gradually improved - a combination of neck exercises every day , lots of vitamin stuff and holding my phone up to eye height as I use it a lot - rather than looking down
