Bakers cyst?

Has anyone any experience of these? I have what I think is a bakers cyst(a cyst behind my knee). Google tells me that there isn't much that can be done other than icing it and resting it. It's seriously painful at the minute, I can't bend my leg properly, I can't walk properly. I'm debating whether or not to go to the out of hours gp but it seems pointless if they can't actually do anything? Did you have one? Did it go away by itself? How long did that take? Any experiences welcome!

I saw a sports physio who gave me ultrasound and it worked really well.

Thanks, I will definitely see if I can find someone offering that where I live. The pain is killing me today 😫

Ouch my gran had one of these aged 80 and had to have it drained. It was fascinating yet very disgusting seeing what came out. She almost danced out the clinic after that 🤣

Oh man, that doesn't sound pleasant! Glad to hear it worked for her though. I'm seriously squeamish and would probably faint at the sight of it. I going to have to do something though, I can hardly walk and stairs are surprisingly difficult when you can't bend your knee!

I had this. Was very painful, but was advised to keep moving and I could actually walk through the pain eventually. I saw a physio who gave me some exercises to try and it eventually went away. I do sympathise though, as it really hurt!

It wasn’t pleasant but instant relief after, with antibiotics as a precaution. Get it sorted though- she ended up having it done in A&E as typically of her, she ignored it for ages until it went really horrible and the pain was agony.

I had mine drained and it wasn’t painful at all. I might have had a steroid injection as well but can’t remember for sure as I’ve had a lot over the years.

I had one and was advised to keep walking as this should reduce it over time. It was uncomfortable rather than painful and exercise did ease it - then eventually it burst! It was utter agony for a couple of days but I kept moving as soon as I could bear to and it slowly improved, ending up with no pain at all and the cyst apparently gone. I had a swollen bruised calf for a couple of weeks too.
However it's now about 5 years later and I suspect it's returning. 😟

Thanks so much for all your replies. I think as a starting point I will visit the GP next week. I read online that they can just disappear by themselves so was hoping for that tbh. I have been walking as much as I can, I usually walk the dogs for a few hours a day so I had to bring them for a wee one. Thankfully it is peeing it down here so they didn't object too much to it being cut short!
