fed up with local GP keep getting fobbed off. None will see me, only ever phone appointments and this is now ongoing over the last three years and I’m starting to get worried. They keep just saying it must be piles.
if I was to go private who do I need to see, as in what type of doctor? I have insurance through work and finally had a terrible bout of bleeding with dark clots (sorry if tmi) and had enough, I’m scared now.

This is awful OP. I saw my GP today as have been struggling with severe constipation and was taken seriously. I'm sorry you haven't had this level of care.

I am so so sorry you aren’t being taken seriously. Bowel issues need to be checked even if it turns out to be nothing. My friend aged 25 took months to be taken seriously and her parents in the end paid for her to be seen privately-was fobbed pf as having anxiety and IBS but acting had a satsuma sized tumour. Bow not saying you have the same, but you must be seen so whatever it is can be sorted quickly. All the best.

I had this for weeks and saw a few gp’s
I collapsed in work and they found stage 4 endometriosis and huge fibroids.

it’s disgusting that women are not taken seriously

Thanks for the replies they’re very helpful.

I haven’t used the private healthcare previously as I’ve only just got a job with it. I wanted to know what I need to ask for as I am desperate and hoping it is something not serious but I’m willing to have any tests done necessary and would rather be examined than be told it’s all ok. Spent the whole evening today not being able to sit down without bleeding and just so fed up with it as well as very worried.

At the very least, you deserve an examination and assessment in person. Awful!!

If your insurer says you need a referral then check if they offer a free virtual GP service. If so book an appointment and they'll do the referral for you. If not and you need your GP to do it, I've always found NHS GPs fine about referrals the minute you say you have private health insurance. If they offer eConsult or similar where you can send a message you can usually do it that way.

If this is a pre existing condition your private health cover may not cover you - that’s the first thing you need to check.
